Datacard/12mo contract?
Got my own datacard and wanted to sign a 12 month contract. Went to the local Sprint store and they said no, only 2 year contracts, whether you have your own gear or not. 😡

One of the requirements to get the 59.99 price is that you be on a two year agreement. You can do a one year if you want to pay 79.99/mnth. But that extra 20 a month will cost you $240 over the course of a year, you are better off doing a 2 year and paying the cancellation fee in 12 months if you want to cancel (since we prorate our cancellation fee it would only be $120). And if you decide you keep you just save $20/mnth.

Forcing someone into an agreement when they have their own equipment is bull. It's why the FCC is looking into competition within the wireless industry.

LOL this has nothing to do with what the FCC is looking into. And you obviously don't understand how a business works; they usually take a initial loss to set your account up, add your hardware to their system, which cost them money (because they have to pay employees to do this), etc.... So they ask you to enter a contract so they can guarantee they make their money back and make a profit. Its the same with cable or satellite, you cant say well i bought my TV my self, so i don't want a contract.

Somebody doesn't even know their own industry. What a shame. The state of competition was a big part of the probe. Requiring a contract because everybody else does would be part of that wouldn't you say? Of course...but someone is drinking Sprint Kool-Aid for the sake of drinking it.
If you work in the industry you know it costs nothing to put someone on the network if you take out equipment subsidies. How long does it take you to do an activation? 15 minutes? And you make about $12 per hour? That's $3! Wait...you charge a $36 activation fee. Guess it's been made up...hasn't it?

Obviously you don't know how to read, the state of competition had to deal with phones being locked to only one carrier. Sprint Kool-Aide is laughable when i have both Verizon and Sprint. Best Data and Best coverage i cant go wrong.
Next time don't contradict yourself when you talk, it doesn't help. First you say it doest cost anything, but then you said it cost 3$.
I also forgot, that store you went to and tried to activate your aircard, they don't have to pay for...

I didn't contradict myself at all. In fact, I used the activation fee as a coverall for that $3, plus the electricity they're already paying for.
As an FYI, Metro PCS is not charging for Metro Flash right now. Just pay your first month and go. But you being the wireless expert probably already knew that.

He was actually providing his own equipment, and was willing to sign a 1 year contract with said equipment.
This means NO loss on the equipment, you still get one year of service (or a termination fee), plus the set up fee.
I understand that it costs money to set up a user on the network.. but you are taking less of a loss here than you would for a normal customer, and he was still willing to sign an agreement. It's like turning a customer away because they are only offering you 15 dollars profit instead of 17. Is it less money? Yes. Is it still money? Yes

Actually, if one has one's own equipment then one can go Month-to-Month with Verizon. I would strongly advise going to a retail store and letting the rep know upfront that you know about it though. I have seen telesales activate cpe customers with two year contracts which is simply shady.

VZW offers 1 year and month-month contracts right on their web site and for me the equipment would be $70. I’ll gladly pay that rather than call Sprint again.

well with commission and working 30 hours a week while im going to school, IDC that i only get paid $10 and hour.. thats why ppl go to college.. so i dont have to work this job forever.. i feel sorry for the guy that make $15 or so an hour at verizon and gets complacent with his 30,000 per year and never goes anywhere in life

If you’re a VZW customer you can sign up for a 1 year data plan and they’ll charge you a whole $30 for a PCMIA data card (what I want).
I tried to go with Sprint because they supposedly have the fastest data and I didn’t want to be locked into a 2 year contract with 4G, LTE, Wi-Max…whatever, just around the corner.

I love how you say everywhere. I remember in high school traveling up to Georgia for a football tourney. It was in southern Georgia right above Jacksonville, You guys had NO COVERAGE AT ALL. I also went to go check the map today and guess what STILL NO COVERAGE. We played in a town called silver hill right next to Okefenokee Park. Verizon doesn't even cover the whole state of Rhode Island, the smallest state in the US. So please take your baseless claims elsewhere.
