rebate fraud

how many people know that if you activate a new line or you upgrade that line that you cannot take that esn and put it on another line for at least 30 days or the customer will be charged back 150.00. well it is true and i have had several reps that will sit there and not believe that it will actually hurt the customer in the long run.......just wondering if we could get the word out....so reps will stop being so angry...and telling the customer that we can do this because we can't without making the customers bill higher the next month

THANK YOU!! I can't tell you how many times customers have called in wanting to know why they were charged full price of phone, but were supposed to get an instant credit, only to find out they added a new line, and activated the phone on another one. Then they get all pissy at me bc the sales rep told them they could do that since the original line wasn't eligible for an upgrade!

I was told and have done it that you can activate another line get the rebate then I switched the new phone to my main line and then put the older phone on the new line. It worked and I was never charged anything. I was told as long as the line that I started to get the rebate remains active I am good.

Yea.. ive been told both ways, so I usually tell people to wait until after their MIR has processed (at LEAST 30 days) so they dont get a charge.

However.. I think its all FUD, and Ive NEVER seen this chargeback on a bill even when people HAVE chosen to not heed my warnings.

we used to do it all the time in nss but sprint realized how much it was happening and decided to lay down the law with another of there ridiculous rules... anyhoo theres a chance they wont catch it, BUT theres also a chance they will get hit by fraud and charged for the rebates, and mail ins wont work for sure. prolly just help get them caught up...its only a month to wait, if its saving you 200 or more on a device, be patient!!!

I don't see how it is fraud. You are getting th e150 off for the contract you sign for the new line. That means what phone you have is meaningless!

Are you telling me that if I walk out the sprint store and drop the phone in water and it stops workign I buy one on ebay and activate it on the new line they will charge me 150 because the phone I started the new line with is no longer with it?

What do you get the 150 off for the phone or line?

Now I can see if you switch the phone to another line and then cancel the new line within 30 days. Yes you should be charged the 150!

its fraud bc they give you $150 off of a phone for the new line. if you remove that phone and activate it on another line w in those 30 days youd be able to cancel that new line and you just got a new free phone for a line that just probably just got a new phone 2 months ago! so ppl would add lines, change phones around, and cancel the new line of service, getting new phones for free every month!

I don't think it's fraud at all. When you cancel new line, you have to return the phone that you purchased with your line. Not the phone that is on the new line. If you don't return the one you purchased, then they're gonna charge the customer back the $150.

sometimes I think people write before they read.

yes that would be fraud. That is what I am asking what we are talking about. Moving a phone to another line and keeping the new line for the length of the contract with a different phone is not fraud.

I love it people that take only the advantages of something and never the disadvantages. I can't tell you hoe many times my friends had to get a new Sim Card. Yeah its nice just to take it out and pop it in but just another piece to get damaged or stop working. So its not all glory!

I've never had one go bad, I went ahead and got a 3G SIM last October but that's it. As far as theft, don't lay your phone down for someone to pick up. That's just a matter of not being stupid.

I purchased my Sprint phone on Monday, 05 May 2008. I should have received the rebate by Monday, 11 August 2008. I repeatedly submitted the rebate request and each time Sprint claimed the requested was never received. After submitting the request numerous times via mail, fax, and email with the company continuing to claim the request was never received I began filing rebate fraud complaints against Sprint in March 2009 and I still have not received a rebate check. Sprint has lied to me and the Better Business Bureau about this matter. This company has no intentions of sending the rebate check and that is fraud! As of Thursday, 28 May 2009 I have filed a rebate fraud complaint with the following 43 agencies and will not stop until I receive m...

Did you speak to rebates department? Did you request a copy of the receipt to send in a new rebate form? I dont know the whole side of the story but the main reason why you wouldnt receive it is you either didnt send a copy of the original receipt or packing slip, or when you sent the rebate form didnt put a stamp. Maybe you upgraded a line, then moved the phone to another line, voiding the mail in rebate? And have you called customer care? normally you get that credited back to your bill after a certain period of time. No offense, but I dont think our company is just going to ignore you to the point where you have to kick, scream and complain till you get what you want, on top of 3 months of service. I also experienced alot of problems from...

Did you speak to rebates department? Answer: Yes, I did speak to the rebates department. Several times. Did you request a copy of the receipt to send in a new rebate form? Answer: No, I did not request a copy of the receipt because upon completing all of the paperwork I made a copy of the receipt, the completed rebate request form. I don't know the whole side of the story but the main reason why you wouldn't receive it is you either didn't send a copy of the original receipt or packing slip, or when you sent the rebate form didn't put a stamp. Answer: No, you do not know the whole story. All of the paperwork was completed properly. The rebate request was submitted several times via mail, fax, and email. If I did not put a stamp on the mailin...

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous, you waited over a year to deal with the issue? I understand your frustration, you kinda have to take some of the blame on yourself too (I mean that in the most logical way possible) If I mailed in a rebate for Radioshack and in 2011 called in to ask why I never received it back, I'd consider it my fault for not looking in to it earlier. That's just how mail in rebates are.

I'm sorry if I don't seem helpful, but in my experience, you won't receive anything from the mail in rebate department if it's been over a year. Customer care might do a credit, but it'd have to follow along the customer care rep's guidelines. My suggestion is calm down before you call in, and present it in a logical sense.

It's o...

Answer:I did not wait over a year to deal with this issue. After submitting the rebate several times and waiting up to 14 weeks to receive the rebate and then contacting customer service and being informed that the rebate was still not received I took action.

mt2805 says: " Maybe you upgraded a line, then moved the phone to another line, voiding the mail in rebate? Answer: The rebate request was completed properly. "

You didn't answer the question. Also, if they "purposely" aren't sending you your rebate, you really think they are gonna give you 3 months of free service? You are wasting so much time going through all of this for a $100. Plus it's just stupid. Cancel already and go somewhere else.

Just my "opinion".

Yes, that it is, just your opinion. The issue is very valid. Two TV reporters have read my post on several blogs and based on the fact that so many other customers have been defrauded by Sprint, my situation along with other many anger customers will be included in a consumer action segment.

Not that this situation is to be taken lightly, and I can only imagine how frustrated you must be, but deepc185 has a valid point.

At somepoint isn't it just best to give up? I hate Time Warner cable, fight with them all the time, and when my contract(yes, with a cable company and I know I am a dumbass for signing it) is up, I'm getting Direct TV. Doesn't mean I am going to get a TV station involved for an 11 pm news story.

Just think of all the negative energy and time you have lost that you will never get back. Ever. All that time is gone. I'd say the time you wasted far outwieghs the money you lost in rebate. Have you spoken to retentions. Told them you want to cancel? They should pony up the credit.

But as a previous poster st...

So let me get this straight. You didn't get a rebate so are crying like a 2 year old that had their mommy say they can't have a cookie. Then you aren't even intelligent enough to create a new thread to voice your troubles. Instead you necropost a year and a half old thread with your woes that are completly and utterly irrelevant to the original thread (original thread was talking about if you add a line and within the first 30 days switch the phone to another number on your line you don't get the rebate and get charged for the phone).
For your examples of the restraunt and the mechanic etc. Guess what i would do? I wouldn't go back and give them further buisness if I didn't like what I got because they aren't entitled to give me jack ...

Not trying to be a smarta$$ but how is this "fraud" exactly? Alltel does this. Or they did when I worked there. You can't cancel a new line without returning the phone so what advantage does the customer gain? Company gets 1-2 yr contract, Customer gets discount on phone. Sounds fair to me.
