Phone Upgrade

cskipgo

Mar 31, 2009, 10:03 AM
I hope I am not opening up a can of worms. I am looking to upgrade my phone, I am at the 2 year mark. I was researching which phone to get. I don't need data, just phone and text. I was thinking of one with a Qwerty.

My question is why can I go to a 3rd party like Wirefly and get better pricing? I asked Sprint and they told me that they could not comment. I know there must be a reason why to not go to Wirefly or Best Buy, but as a consumer I am trying to find out what the catch is.

Thanks!

The catch about purchasing from an authorized indirect dealer such as Wirefy is you may be required to have a specific rate plan to get their advertised sales price, be activating a new line and not upgrading an existing one or have to had additional features added to your current plan.
Often if you change plans, delete the attached features or terminate your Sprint services within a given time frame set by the authorized indirect dealer, not only will Sprint charge you an ETF, the authorized indirect dealer will too because Sprint charges back the authorized indirect dealers their commissions for cancellations within a certain time period.
The time period and amount of commission is charge back determined based on an agreement...

its very simple...answer is simply because sprint has its own policy when coming to the discount on the phones.unlike in other 3rd party dealers they do also have their own discounts towards the phone.specially on the 30 day guarantee. 😳 🙄 🤤

I appreciate all the comments on this.

I just wondered if Sprint can release the phone to Best Buy at a low cost, why can't they give them to the customer as well.

Really all I am looking for is the best deal for a Qwerty phone.

I appreciate good service and have not always received that at Best Buy, but if I would need to go back there instead of being serviced by Sprint, then there isn't much option.

The reason the phones are sometimes cheaper at Best Buy is because Best Buy the company is taking off additional discount above what sprint discounts the phone for.

Personally I would tell you to buy from a corp store, you'll get better service over all.

Sprint doesnt' release the phones to Best Buy. Whatever indirect company runs the "Sprint" in Best Buy purchases the phones from the manufacturer and therefor can sell them at whatever cost they want. Sprint will pay them a certain amount for the contracts and other features. Indirects usually don't have as much overhead to compensate for and sometimes do not pay their employees as much commission (if any) so they are able to lose a little more on the phones to gain more business. At least thats how it worked for the Indirect I worked for. I may be wrong in this case but I'm probably close.

you are correct in the sence that indirect gets paid a certian amount per upgrade/activation. i once talked to a guy that owned an indirect and he told me that the pay was so good that after XXX amount of phones he was able to lose money on the price of the phone and still make it up with the bonus sprint was giving because he sold over XXX amount of total handsets.

Just purchase your handset upgrade from Best Buy after you get all the educated and informative information to make a buying decision from the Sprint corporate retail store. Yes, within the first 30 days if you have any device issues, Best Buy will return/exchange it for you as it is part of their 30 day return/exchange policy. After 30 days, if you have any questions or concerns regarding your handset, the Sprint corporate retail stores do not have any choice but to assist you to the best of their abilities. If they don't give you the best Red Carpet Experience, all you have to do is have a few transactions on your account in iRMS done. Each transaction could very well trigger a CSAT survey call from Sprint. If you get such a call, just giv...

Wow.....you're a D*ck. Nobody is saying they aren't required to help customers that don't buy from them. They are saying its not right. Takes a real shi*ty person to waste someones time knowing that rep gets commission and knowing full well they aren't' going to buy anything from them. Takes an even shi*tier person to tell other people to do just that. I highly doubt your superiors are "ok" with you sending business out the door. They might like the KPI's or whatever but if they knew you were taking money out of their pockets and taking food off their table, I'm sure they would have a problem with that. If not then they are even more incompetent than you are.

As long as customers rake over the Sprint RCs/LRCs for the correct information, leave them high and dry to purchase the upgrade price from Best Buy, Sprint still has the customer. I mentioned earlier that the majority of RCs/LRCs are just a hair sharper than a sweet potatoe. Personally I wish Sprint would drop LRCs to PT status. PT status would mean less benefits to pay out on the LRC and more responsibility shift from myself and my SM. BTW, I'm Mr. Dick to you. Or Harry if you prefer.

Since you obviously don't care about commission, why do you work in a store? Why don't you go work in a callcenter since you like to help people out so much rather than make money. Do you know how commission works? Let me explain: The rep works with a customer, figures out what the customer needs. If that need is getting a new phone either through upgrade or new line of service, the rep then helps them find a phone and gets them the features and accessories for that phone. Sprint then pays them for the contract on the upgrade or new line as well as the features and accessories. See how that works? The rep makes the sale, gains or keeps the customer and then makes money. It does not work like this: Rep works with a customer, finds o...

Sharper than a sweet potatoe? Since when did potato have an "e" on the end of it? Jesus, you really are an idiot. How on earth did you make to ASM? And I am sure you passed a federal background check as you said earlier. Sure. With a screen name like Midnight Toker and all of your previous references to pot and pot humor. That is just what the government is looking for. YOU 'TARD!

That's the beauty of a screen name, you can chose anything you like and have it be something that totally doesn't represent you in real life. Yes, I'll admit I made a mistake with the word potato. How did I make it to an ASM position with Sprint? I mentioned earlier that I, along with my SM and well as our DM, all worked together back in the Nextel Communications day. It is called the Good Ole Boy Network. As far as getting on board with the DoD, I've already passed the physical and psychological screenings, I don't have any criminal record, an excellent credit and solid work history. Plus I just graduated with a BS in CISM so there isn't any reason why I'll be turned down by the DoD. It is only a matter of time for the bureaucratic to be cl...

How do you know that I didn't go into your location in the last week and waste your time and then go some where else? My concern is you were more focused on stabbing Sprint people in the back then telling me how Sprint could help me.

Does anyone know when Sprint updates/changes their phone prices?

I am waiting for the Rumor to be lowered now that the Rumor2 is out.

As a consumer, thank you all for the interesting read of this thread.

Actually I have waited while the debate rages on. I have some line discounts and after hearing you guys speak about it, I am afraid those would go away.

I have always received great service from Sprint and never dealt with Best Buy for phones but they have ticked me off on other products telling me that I am stupid for not buying extended warranties that cost more than the product.

I inquired because Wirefly was listing the Lotus for free and that is a lot different than the $99 that Sprint is charging.

I always got an inexpensive phone paying $20 or less. In these economic times I was just hoping for a Qwerty keyboard for free. I guess I am hoping the Rumor will go on clearance.

I do thank you all for the info and it is nic...

May have already been covered but make sure, if you do use Wirefly, that the price is for an upgrade and not a new line of service. Alot of the 3rd party websites offer much better deals only for new lines. I personally wouldn't go through wirefly or any other 3rd party website because if you decide you don't like it then the only way to exchange it is back through the website which can be a big pain.

My SM, DM and I all worked together back in the back of legacy Nextel Communications. Like I mentioned earlier, we get together every other week for Texas Hold 'Em. BTW, I drive a 2007 Honda Civic Sedan. Remember everyone, get your information to make an educated buying decision on a wireless upgrade at a corporate retail store, go to the nearest Best Buy to purchase it and then if you want to have a Ready Now Experience, go back into the corporate retail store.

Guy is probably some knob-shining sycophant that doesn't practice what he preaches. If I had some lowly assistant manager shifting business to a competitor I'd send him to the unemployment line real quick like. Had a store manager who would tell customers about the great deals Walmart had, dressed him down and fired him on the spot.

If this guy isn't a butt kisser then he's an angry, pathetic ex-Sprint employee trying to pretend he's in the know while he attempts to take business away from Sprint. Get a new job, junior, I don't think trolling the Sprint forum and lying pays that well. At least no where near as well as actually selling phones.

Thought I'd do some sharing, so below are a couple of the PMs that Midnight Toker sent me. These in and of themselves should prove to everyone that this idiot should never be looked to for advice, not even mentioning his other ridiculous posts on this board. The quotes are his messages to me.

My response: Actually what's really sad is when someone is too stupid to see that they are costing themselves money. Not only are you an idiot but you should never be allowed to procreate and I would not be surprised at all if you get hit buy a bus, driven by karma, on the way home one night soon.

Look all i have to say is this Midnight Toker kid is a joke. A PIKER! How could anyone who works at a corporate store send a customer to the competition. Let alone tell them to come in to a store, waist our time, and then bounce and say comeback if you want ready now. As a Lead at a Sprint store, this is completely unacceptable. If i knew what store this kid worked at, he wouldn't be there much longer, my self with the company included, because we would have some serious words outside the store. If anyone of you know who this kid is, you should report him. This does nothing good to the company.
