Sprint Family Locator?

Anyone have experience with this feature? Can you provide any comment or opinion?

I've temporarily got it turned-on on my account. Seems pretty cool, since I've got kids on my account.

Appears that accuracy can vary greatly (10-15 yards, on the low-end - 1.5 mile radius, on the high-end).

Seems that the Centro isn't nearly as accurate as others. Is that consistent across all Centros? Or, could it be this particular one.

Rant & Instinct seem more precise.

Is this the exact same location info that E-911 would receive? Or, is this 'light-weight' variant of the GPS capabilities? (I hope E-911 gets better accuracy.)

Actually, I guess I don't know if this even uses GPS. Or, does it simply use cell tower triangulation?

Any...

Only thing that stinks is if the phone is turned off, you wont be able to grab a location. Its a good service, I used it for the 15 day trial period. I used it on a Centro, and it worked just as good as the Rumor on the 2nd line. I noticed if its in a wooded area, or place where there isnt good signal the location is less accurate. 😛

I've user it for over a year.
The accuracy varies between 2 miles to 20 yds.
My kids figured out that tuning off the "location" on the phone decreases accuracy.

As for the centro, my kid had a fusic which
was between 20 yds and 1/2 mile. She upgraded to a centro which has never given a location better than 1/2 mile.

Maybe it's the phone or maybe I've not figured out how to turn on "location".

But the service is a great "gray hair" retardant.

Anyone know if SFL uses info already in the network? Or, does it take a unique action to locate the device (via GPS &/or cell triangulation, I assume)?

If something is triggered between the network and device, what actually happens?

Does this action require some type of action/response by the device (not the user, I know that's not required)?

Does locating a device via SFL cause any drain on the device power/battery?
