So last night my friend came over who has a verizon ppc-6700. he showed me a program that came with his phone called internet sharing and he had an option to connect his data network to a computer and run his phone as a modem. im not really familar with verizon so i dont know if they charge for phone as modem plan like sprint does. so i tried my phone, which also came with the internet sharing program. I had two options for my network connection. first is phone as modem and the second one was sprint pcs. i selected sprint pcs and my phone worked. now my question is, my phone did not tell me anything about a phone as modem plan being added to my account, i havnt called sprint yet and thats next on the to-do list but i swear that I read somewh...

Thanks for the respone but i dont think i need to do this just yet as my phone is providing me with data service via usb and my phone data settings on sprint, not phone as modem. im just wondering if anyone has heard of this or know if it is bypassing the system?

what you are actually doing when you go onto to sprintpcs option is called tethering. this is different than the phone as a modem service. What you get is the same internet service speeds that your phone is capable of in your particular market. This is a little used service that customers are not aware of. It intended use is to increase the size of the screen that your cellphone has for a more functional browsing experience. And no, it should not require additional packaging other than your basic $15 vision package. In other words, just like using the web on your phone.

this is so cool! it keeps disconnecting every now and then but it works! and its not "mobile web" its the real web using your internet connection from the power vision plan. thats really neat, since i got the Rev-A update the speeds on my laptop was saying 10 MBPS! thats amazing on a little phone...thanks for sharing that with us Mogul King i chatted with someone on Sprint.com and she said that i will NOT be charged since it is not the PAM option. even if they try saying that im going to be charged i received an E-mail from our chat conversation so i have proof she said i wont be charged. I doubt i'll ever need it, since your just sharing your phones internet connection! VERY neat feature, saving you $39.99/month for the Phone As Modem capab...

this error means that you do not have the phone as modem plan according to documents. these are the steps i use to connect on the mogul (should be the same for sprint touch). go to: programs> internet sharing> pc connection should be usb> network settings should be sprint (NOT PHONE AS MODEM). After confirming these are your connections, it should say connect on the bottom right hand corner of your screen. select connect and everything should work. make sure phone is connected via active sync before doing so. i do not have a bluetooth connection on my computer so i have not tried this route however bluetooth only allows a limited connection so try to use usb if you can. Just a fyi i do not have the phone as modem plan either so you shouldnt ...

there should be an error code with the request of the password. most of the time this would be caused if you recently suspended your internet and reactivated, or transferred from iden network to cdma network. also, make sure your network settings say sprint not phone as modem. if you keep recieving error, i would contact tech support.

thanks bro. I just got it figured out. every time it kept saying that, (Error Code 67) I would exit Active Sync both on the phone and laptop. I guess it wouldn't read the thing cuz there were 2 connections on at once. Active sync and Internet Sharing, so exiting Active Sync would lemme on perfectly. I also live in Rev-A area and also got 10 MBPS it amazing the speed. I noticed that its a bit sensitive, like if you would move the phone it would disconnect from the web, forcing you to click the Connect button once again to gain access to the web. its a GREAT feature that sounds like Sprint is hiding ha ha

i must be a little slow because i can not make heads nor tails of it. could you possiblly be a little more specific?

im not sure how more specific i can be. first, you must have a windows capable device. second, i have only tested this on a ppc-6700(verizon) and ppc-6800(sprint). I had a treo 700wx before my mogul and i believe that phone is capable as well however in your programs its called 'modem link' instead of 'internet sharing' and the settings are a little more tricky then the pocket pc's. As far as other windows based devices go, i can't help you there.

Ok, i will start from the home screen. (make sure you have established an active sync connection before starting the below steps)

1st: tap your windows start button.
2nd: tap programs
3rd: select the program 'internet sharing'
4th: you will see two seperate drop down menus. first one says...

sprint_2008 pointed something out i forgot. once you select 'connect' after making sure setting are correct in internet sharing, you will disconnect from active sync automatically and if you dont have an open data connection on your phone, it will not work. so....make sure you open your internet explorer on your phone and that its connected to the internet. then you would want to tap 'connect' in the internet sharing program. Sorry if im confusing anyone!

No no the whole MSL thing is just if you dont want to be charged anything for PAM. (Same Thing Buddy) so just follow MogulKing on his advice. Dont tamper with your MSL and stuff, this way is alot faster. Theres two things, Phone As Modem and Internet Sharing. PAM (Phone As Modem) charges you $39.99/ month for usage, but if you dont want to be charged then do the whole MSL thing. only thing to that, is if you mess up, say bye bye to your phone. Now, Internet Sharing is another feature of your PHONE. kinda like Wifi, your not paying for it, is a feature of your phone. PAM is a optional feature you have to pay for your plan. Might sound confusing, but this whole "Internet Sharing" is different from Phone as Modem. Yes your pretty much using you...
