What was Sprint thinking???

jjgreene

You all tell me, what in the world was sprint thinking in aquiring a company that has nothing in common with their technology?

CDMA vs. iDEN?

All it has done is force numerous Nextel customers, who didnt realize how chitty of a network they were on to do some research and switch to a superior carrier like Cingular, and as much as it pains me to say it even Verizon.

Although with all the progression cingular has been making and is looking to make, in about two years the capability of cingular's network will be unparalleled.

when they start offering download speeds of 28 Mbps and 11 Mbps UPLOADS!!!!! your local cable companies and DSL providers wont be able to compete....

Why don't you all jump off of your network and bring i...

cingular is alright in my area but power vision evdo compared to edge is no contest how about we don't compare what a company says they will be able to do one day to what another company is already doing.

WHY DOES SPRINT CONTINUE TO COMPARE EVDO TO EDGE, EDGE IS NOT 3G, now SPRINT'S CUSTOMERS ARE DOPED INTO THIS UNFAIR COMPARISON!

Bad analogy. The don't have working flying cars. There are already functional WiMAX devices. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

NO! I am just excited about the prospects of WiMAX. This thread is asking why Sprint purchased Nextel and one of the larger reason is spectrum. Sprint will have an entire 4G network up and running before others are even getting started. My expectation is that you will shut the hell up in fourth quarter when the WiMAX test markets are up and running. Like I said before, when you are getting raped on voice prices and your data speeds suck, don't come crying to me. Peace.

Nothing happens when to my calls when I use phone as a modem, my phone rings (if you know what you are doing, which I assume you don't if you're asking this question), I answer it and then go about my business. By the way, I have a life you jerk off, I manage a cell phone store. Therefore I spend a lot of time researching the industry I work in and probably know a hell of lot more about it than you do. The internet is a wealth of knowledge and having it at your finger tips at any given time has become something I rely on on a daily basis. Learn what you are talking about before you open your mouth.

OK mr. Jungle, what are you soooo excited about, i honestly don't see what your wifi techonology is going to do for you, sprint is going to offer subscribers 2-4 Mbps downloads with this network, the network also has a much smaller range,

....granted its a plus for Sprint to not have to use the line of sight technology of CDMA. you'll be able to get signal easier in enclosed areas..

all the while cingular will be offering 3.6 Mbps downloads this year, and in 2008 will be utilizing HSPA+ which will yield 28Mbps downloads and 11Mbps uploads

WiMAX THAT!! 🤣

oh yeah.....and, PEACE

Your title does not represent the content of this thread.

You go from asking a simple question that can be easily answered. Spectrum.

Then continue on to be a Cingular fanboy.

Go away.

Good question. Maybe other than spectrum allocation, they were looking for a company that was tops in customer satisfaction and delivery that they could easily purchase. Q-Chat also comes to mind, a CDMA based PTT service with initial connection times close to DC, the rights to which are owned by Nextel.

As for Cingular being "tops", Consumer Reports and J.D. Powers would definitely disagree with you on that one. Cingular is usually ranked last in overall customer satisfaction by both.

Right now, Sprint isn't doing well, but that is mainly because of poor marketing techniques and an advertising campaign that has failed to deliver for them.

most definately agreed. the whole strat behind that one is to find out what is going right with both services and to politely combine them to one successfull industy. granted transitions are nver polite or smothe that was sprints whole idea essentally if the could not get better with customer satisfation. they were going to find someone else that was doing ok.

It's amazing how short sighted some people are. THe reason for merging with Nextel was to get the bandwidth, the 4g, Q-chat and the customer base. The iden side will continue to have capacity issues just like GSM will in the future which is why UMTS/HSDPA is being rolled out. Nextel was planning to migrate their customer base to CDMA anyway, this just speeds up the process.
Those who like to think of Sprint as the red headed stepchild need to remember who was the first US carrier to have 3g. (August, 2002)Sprint will be the first US carrier to offer 4g. Some carriers don't even have 3g, especially those with their headquarters in Bellevue, WA.

but it doesnt really matter what sprint rolls out, they need to expand their footprint....

Sprint has a very good footprint. Better than VZW. Combined with Nextel, very close to Cingular's! Cingular native network= 273 million people, SprintNextel=272!

The wireless industry is in a constant state of change.
