Change in ETF policy

I worked for SprintPCS until 2003, and at that time, you could get the ETF fee waived if you lived/moved to an area where SprintPCS had NO coverage at all, whatsoever. If it was an area that showed coverage, even if it was poor, then the ETF would stand. I currently work for T-Mobile and spoke to a woman tonight who insisted that since SprintPCS merged with Nextel, that their policy on this changed...has it? I usually like to be well educated on all the carriers so I can speak confidently to other customers.

Don't quote me on this...but I recall reading...

Because Sprint includes roaming on all their new plans, that reason is no longer valid.

Oh My...! First of all it hasn`t changed, if you dont have coverage, you will not be charged with an ETF... Now the america plan (roaming plan) will allow you to have up tu 50% of your usage in roaming... Of your hole usage wich means than if you use 500min during the day and 1000 during the night, the total being 1500min, you will be "allowed" to use 750min in roam an any hour of the day... Now if you exceed this by too much, on several months, you will recieve a letter from sprint asking you to control your usage, and if you don't control it, then your america plan will be canceled, but not your service for crying out loud...

per internal Sprint documents, up-to-date as of December 2006:

"Adjustment for Early Termination Fee"
(Details different reasons why an adjustment for an Early Termination Fee might be needed and actions to follow.)

Customer is no longer in Sprint coverage area (including out of the country).
Verify if the customer resides in a Sprint coverage area...
if No: Credit should not be given.

Offer an alternative solution to the customer:
iDEN/legacy Nextel service.

if Yes: Credit should not be given.

Remind the customer that a subscriber agreement was required for the offer he or she accepted (new service activation, upgraded phone, or new plan).

hope that clears up any confusion, and/or mi...

True. No coverage is no longer a valid ETF out. I don't believe ANY carrier will go for that anymore, except maybe T-Mobile.

The policy has changed, unless you can really prove to Sprint with a plane ticket or a utility bill under the customers name to where they are moving to. The reason being is that Store Reps were calling; acting like the customer; saying that they were moving out of the United States so Sprint would waive the ETF. And the Reps would go back and re-activate another account under a different social that will qualify the customer up to 5 lines 0 deposit. This is, of course Fraud. So Sprint was getting a lot of churn. Not saying this is the main reason, however it is part of the reason. If you ask a CC Rep they might not tell you because of company policy not to discuss company policies. I actually seen this happen before at some stores I was a T...

Well, what this woman was telling me was that if you had poor signal, or you were in a coverage area, but didn't get signal indoors, that SprintPCS would waive the ETF. Sounds like from what you said this isn't true?

Not indoors. Their coverage maps only show what you can expect to get outside! And if you move to a address they don't service and you provide proof I believe they will waive it!

Exactly... Sprint can`t guarantee you what will happen inside a building... I know how it sound specially when that building it's your house... But Sprint can't count on how it's your house build...
