I have verizon but I want a good set of good PTT phones too, is it OK to sign up or are all the towers going to be shut off? What is the future?

I want to buy two Motorola i880 is that a good phone?

I want to sign up for the family plan 69.99 for 700 minutes, I see that its for unlimited PTT, can you add mobile to mobile to this plan too for any extra cost?

Is voice service on IDEN really that bad, I read some people complaining about it?

Thank you for any advice you can give me.

Of course, it is ok to sign up with Nextel. Well, there are plans right now to extend the life until at least 2010 perhaps 2012. The plans are obviously to allow customers with different devices in order to give them a seamless transition between IDEN and CDMA. There will be dual mode type devices that are coming out now in certain markets and next year with more markets and more devices in the distribution channels. In addition, Qchat will be replacing Ready Link and might replace DC in 2008.

Yea, those phones are good but I actually like the I870, but either are great phones.

Yes, I think you can add M2M for $5/month. (Not sure why you would with PTT.)

Voice service has been dismal on IDEN lately especially because of the cons...

OK thanks, will there be new plans once the dual mode phones hit my market? will it be a regular sprint plan then just an add on for the IDEN PTT?

Do you happen to know the name of the first dual mode phone?

Obviously, the IC502 will only have 1xRTT and not DO so the customer needs to adjust for that. If you are an existing Sprint customer (on the CDMA side), you will be notified to switch to a “voice and walkie talkie plan”. I think with Nextel customers I understand that in many cases the customer can keep the rate plan, but sometimes not depending on certain circumstances.

Yes, it is the IC502 without EV-DO (but has 1xrtt) . Next year will be the IC902 with EV-DO.

Does that help?

I'm not concerned with EVDO, I will be a new customer so any idea of the costs of plans, I want two phones on family plan. Will it be 69.99 for 700 minutes plus PTT rates or wil that be included just the way it is now, meaning the only real difference is my voice will be on CDMA, is that correct.?

And thank you Nextel for helping me.

Well, I believe that is the way it will work with the CDMA being voice, data, and IDEN for your PTT needs (there might be changes though). I suggest you wait until more people including myself understand it fully so we can pass it on to those who are inquiring about the device and believe me there are tons who are inquiring about these devices. So just be patient.

I apologize for that, since it is very new I want to know all the details before I speculate. I do know that the device is great!

Nextel18, You mentioned the ic902 having EVDO capabilities. How sure are you on this? I have a nextel work cell and a sprint personal cell and would love to combine the 2. Any speculation as to when the ic902 might be available? Thanks in advance.

100% sure. When will it be available? In 2007. (I cannot give a specific timeframe as of now.)

Right now, they have that IC502 that came out in the selected markets; perhaps you should try to get your hands on that of course it only has 1xrtt.

Also can I use the PTT without using the speaker phone? if that makes sense or maybe a better way to ask it- Can I use PTT and just have it up to my ear and then PTT when needed. Novice here thanks 🙂

Check jd power and associates web site before signing up...you will see where sprint/nextel ranks among other companies...last in almost every category.

He said he wanted a phone with the PTT capability being his first need. Nextel's PTT is solid and JD Power doesn't compare PTT between the carriers.
