Thinking of switching to Sprint

I'm with Cingular now. I'd like some feedback about Sprint. Every cell service has it's pros & cons.

What do you like and dislike about Sprint?

Sprints rates & plans seem great (better than Cingular). That LG Fusic phone seems cool.

some amazing new phones just came out and will be coming out soon.

sprint is wonderful for data, meaning their web service kicks the snot out of everyone else.

with that said, voice service will probably be different. im not saying you will have a problem, but you may notice a difference indoors. this is partially because of the higher frequency that sprint uses compared to cingular. the radio waves for a lower frequency can more easily penetrate walls, etc.

if you are switching to any carrier, spend your first month testing it in the places you will use it the most. find out if you get reception there. if not, please do not call expecting sprint to throw up another tower in that area.

with any company, you will have dead...

If you are having trouble getting reception in your house, you can throw your phone into roaming mode which uses a lower frequency... I would only reccomend this if it's a problem.

be careful about roaming. In my market I have to pay $15 a month for America Roaming which I get free roaming. My last bill had 16 minutes of LONG DISTANCE ROAMING CHARGES. In order to save the LD Roaming charges 50% of your minutes MUST be used on Sprint network in order not to be charged LD while Roaming. My plan does include long distance. 16 minutes at roaming charge + long distance = $$.$$ in overages.

I called Sprint customer care and kinda bitched about it at first, then realized it was my fault and I told them I was not aware of that and they gave me a extra 100 bonus minutes for the month. It sucks, but she explained it to me and decided to help out as much as she could. I like sprint better then Nextel customer care. They ar...

You think the RAZR is better than the a900? The Sprint RAZR will be the best one yet b/c of the Sprint UI, but it's still not a jaw dropping phone. Just my opinion and the opinion of many others in my experience.

I know some one with the a900 and its not bad im just saying the Razr would be a better buy because from what i can tell the Blade (a900) is gunna be discontinued anyway. Just saying though DONT WANT TO START A FIGHT.

No not fighting... just discussing. The a900 I'm sure will be discontinued sometime in the not too distant future, it's been out for around a year. The Glint (m610) is coming out in the next month, that will be the replacement for the a900 and I'm pretty sure it will be just as good as the 900. I saw one and it looked and felt beautiful. I'm not knocking the RAZR at all, I'm psyched that we are finally carrying it! I just think there are better phones out there in the same form factor and close to the same price. So if there is someone looking for Sprint service, the Samsung line is the one I, personally, recommend.

my two cents: a900 battery life is horrific, and the software is buggier than Windows ME. I got the a920, so not knocking Samsung, just the a900 impresses me as much as a hot steamy turd.

You must be in an affiliate market or have an older plan. The fair and flexible plans available to those in corp. markets have no 50% rule. This was only on old plans, paid for it as an extra or live in an affiliate market. There are only a few affiliates left so if the OP could provide a location we could tell if they would be affected by any of this. To the poster getting charged for this if you are not in an affiliate market I suggest calling retentions and getting a new plan that includes roaming. I have two phones on my plan that roam 60-70% (200-300 min.) of the time while mine roams 10% of the time. Usually I roam 90-100% (2000-3000 min) over 4-5 months in the summer while I'm out in the mountains and deserts of the Western U.S. ...

Thanks for all the input. I switched to Sprint and went with the LG Fusic. This phone is awesome! In addition Sprint has some really great services like picture mail & the wireless backup feature so I don't have to worry about losing my phone book. I originally left Sprint several years ago cause the text messaging system was like web mail and too slow & annoying. Now they have regular text messaging just like everyone else. NO Roaming! & monthly price plans are the best. Wish I switched back sooner.

I've been having the same problems with Cingular also. One Saturday i missed three calls because the circuits were jammed and the voice mails weren't delivered to me until Thursday of the next week!! Really pissed me off! I called and complained and they told me that that is just the way it is. I'm out of my contract next month and will be switching to Sprint.

I have to say my parents are a ton happier with sprint since they switched in Feb. They can actually make a call now without getting dead air or a fast busy.

Well, that was one great thing about Nextel, since they didn't roam onto any other carrier's network you could not possibly be charged roaming. VZ and Cingular have lots of hidden charges and "gotcha's" when they pass through the charges from the carrier onto which you roamed. Read the fine print on the contracts for VZ & Cingular and you'll see; it's scary what charges they CAN pass on to you for roaming onto the wrong place at the wrong time....

Say what you want about Nextel, they have a lot of pluses compared to VZ, Cingy and even Sprint. Like all wireless carriers, Nextel has a few issues here and there, but ridiculuous roaming charges and long distance charges is not one of them. Personally, overall my experience with Nextel store p...

Funny you should make this comparison! I've been toying with the idea of leaving Sprint for Cingular. Perhaps you can elaborate more on what drove you away from Cingular in the first place. I myself have been a loyal Sprint customer for about 7 years. When rate plans are compared between the 2 carriers...Sprint's still seem to be the cheaper of the two. However, there was a time when Sprint seemed to have a monopoly on all the latest & greatest handsets. But, in the last couple years...Cingular (IMO) has closed in and in some ways surpassed Sprint. Every Cingy customer I speak to in Northern & Southern California seem to love Cingular. Except for a handful of folks who were former AT&T users & resisted the change to Cingy. In many parts of C...

I primarily use my cell where I live in central New Jersey. I also frequently travel down the 95 corridor to Florida to visit family. Occasionally travel to visit friends in LA. I left sprint years ago because at the time they had a text messaging system that was more like dial up email. All my other friends were zapping messages back and forth instantly on verizon, cingular & at&t. I became an at&t customer and then flowed into cingular. Now I discovered that not only was the text messaging system updated on sprint but they offered more services for much less money than cingular. Just in comparing my cingular Nokia 6102 to the sprint LG Fusic made me switch back. The sprint voice calls seemed much clearer, internet was faster, sprint offere...
