This phone feels cheap as heck and I don't believe it to have substantial build quality. I'm so disappointed in Sanyo surly they can do better than this. cheap feel no evdo= not worth buying!!!

maybe next round

The only reason why it turned me away from it is because it doesn’t have ev-do.

the katana felt solid to me when i used it. and it would have been perfect for me, because i dont need evdo. My phone bill is high enough for all of the calling i do... i dont need a phone that has TV and MUSIC... i have a TV Comcast cable bill i pay for at home, so why would i want to pay for TV on my phone? I also have an ipod, so why would i need a music phone that holds 15 songs compared to my thousands of songs ipod?

see, there are people out there who maybe want a slim phone, but dont need EVDO or all that other stuff that just costs and extra 15-30 dollars a month to use!

I guess that is true, but if the phones that are coming out such as this one is towards the upper end one would think it would have the latest. I declined to test it when i saw the fact sheet.

Oh ok. Everyone talked about it, like it was for the higher end, so I assumed it would be towards that demographic but I was wrong, oh well.

It's just a tease, I can bet they will launch a EV DO version before the end of the year.

I've seen it, and not impressed at all. I don't care for the thinner phones, they seem to all have similar problems most likely due to the fact that they are cramming so much into a thin area. As far as EV-DO on a thin phone goes, that puts way too many items to use on the phone to work off of the wafer-thin battery, causing you to have to charge it frequently. I like my Sanyo 9000 just fine myself!

Well, get used to it because we are going to see a lot more 3G type devices and they will try everything to improve the battery life, but if they don’t do that well improving it, people will still be buying it.

Yes, people WILL buy this phone. For MANY reasons..1) MULTIPLE COLORS 2)FASHIONABLY THIN 3) IT'S NEW...And the list goes on.
In my area (Southern Cali.) those are the MAIN THREE reasons why people buy the Katana. I rarely get an intellectual come in asking about the EV-DO, or the camera specs, or even about the battery life!!

Why is EVDO important to you? Do you tether to a notebook?

I agree with you on the TV thing.. Why would you wanna pay to watch tv on your small screen... However, it is useful if you're stuck without power (happens often in FLA after hurricanes) or on a long car ride...

Regarding the mp3 feature, most music phones have an expandable memory card slot (miniSD/microSD). You can get the microSD cards with memory between 128mb to up to 2gb (same as Ipod nano) I believe.. I have a 512mb card and it is more than enough for me...Music sounds great with headphones or on speaker since my phone has music speakers... my point is why carry an Ipod AND a cell phone when you can just carry ONE gadget with BOTH... 😁

Ahh but don't you feel a touch ripped off when you could hve gotten a phone that played music instead of spending twice as much on an ipod?

no, because the quality of my ipod is amazing compared to any cell phone. Also, what happens when you are using your cell phone all day as a music player, and the evening rolls around? BAM no battery power, no power to make calls.

It's all price points. They had to stay within a certain wholesale range, 'and don't call me surly'...

Ok, quit your crying. The Katana looks to be another quality phone produced by Sanyo. it doesn't need to be EVDO, or have MP3's or Sprint TV. Not everyone wants a phone that can do that. Some people want a phone that they can talk on. I know that this is a hard concept to understand, but some people may only want, are you ready for this, a phone that they talk on. 😳 How dare they only want a phone that looks good and is only for talking. Yes, the price might be a little steep for a phone that does not have all of the bells and whistles. But that will change soon. It is a GREAT phone for someone who just wants a thin phone. Just because you may want EVDO and MP3's and Sprint TV, doesn't mean that the next person does. I think that this is ...
