Sprint's roaming policy
What is the straight skinny on Sprint's roaming?
We are considering getting 2 phones on the F&F plan, which what our relatives have down state. My question is about roaming as this always seems to be the sore spot with cell phones. We gave up on cells after having Cellular One several years ago because roaming was killing us.
Although we live in a Sprint service area (Sprint phones do work here), it is rural and out of the Sprint tower network, so it's important we know:
1. Will we use our minutes when talking:
a. mobile-to-mobile in roaming?
b. after 7 in roaming?
c. does in-calling plan include in roaming?
2. I scoured the Sprint website user agreement, but to be honest am still a bit confused.

Yes
b. after 7 in roaming?
No one seems to know the true answer to this one, but I belive if you are roaming in a digital area you will not be billed for N&W minutes, and if you're in a analog area you will be billed for N&W minutes.
c. does in-calling plan include in roaming?
I think In-Calling is a Verizon thing, but as for the Sprint plans there are no raoming charges with the Fair & Flexible plans, Free Incoming Plans, and Fair & Flexible for Families plans. Free & Clear Area-Wide Plans DO NOT include roaming.

As with everyone else, 50% of minutes must be used ON Sprint's CDMA network. If not, you will be billed for roaming. To my understanding, this is the policy for all carriers who offer no roaming charges.

That is correct however I have seen some bills where (and I am not kidding) a customer used 1000 minutes roaming and 3 minutes on the Sprint network and this had been going on since he got the plan four months ago and he was not being charged roaming. So go figure. He is lucky I guess!!!

Even if you go over 50% they will not bill you for roaming, but they do have a right to terminate the contract if it happens on a regular basis. But as stated above, I haven't heard of that happening yet.

They can terminate you for over the limit roaming, but usually they don't.
Part of the reason for that is some companies do not report within 30 day of your billing cycle so Sprint really has no Concrete number that you are using off the network. So they just let it slide.

Now I'm confused about this. I'm considering switching to Sprint from Verizon. My boyfriend has Sprint and we need to do some sort of share plan. When I was in a local Radioshack this week, I was told if I was in any of Sprint's roaming areas (since their main service seems to just follow interstate) I would be charged roaming, anywhere from .69-1.09 per minute depending on where I was. Is this incorrect? We would end up doing a fair and flexible share plan. Are there roaming charges with these plans?

.69-1.09???? Where did they come up with these numbers???? On the fair and flex share plans roaming is included.
Even with our old plans, the charges for roaming were .50 for local roam calling .75 for long distance....I honestly don't know what they were talking about with that.

Gotta love Radioshack, they were probably trying to sell the customer on Cingular and were bad-mouthing another company. Typical Radioshack.

Just as a fair warning
a few years back around the time when sprint first launched the free& clear America no roaming plan, I had to go out of town one month and was roaming the majority of the time, the next bill cycle my phone had been disconnected and I received huge bill for the roaming. They may have become a more lenient now but my advise is your better safe than sorry, find a company with home coverage in your area.

The area you are in may be a service area served by a Sprint affilliate market, which does not always have the same rate plans and policies as a Sprint home market. I worked in an area tha...

For the Fair and Flexiable Plan that Sprint offer's there are no Roaming charge's the only thing it use's are you minute's.
If you are using mobile to mobile in a roaming area it should not cost you anything other then your minute's on your plan.
If you are making a call after 7 and have that in your plan and are roaming that will not take anything.
