Sprint Employee's...?

Abercrombie_Fitch

Hello...

So I got a couple of questions about working for Sprint. I am currently employed by a bank but am thinking about leaving. I will have the option to leave or stay in a few weeks. I've got a lot of expirence with cash handeling and of course great customer service skills. lol. I thought about going to work for a Cell Phone carrier because I know A LOT about them. And have had a lot. I like them too. lol. So what are the benefits of working for Sprint? What is generally their pay range / Starting pay? (I Make OKAY money now...considering that I am stil at home and going to college...)
Any input would be very helpful.

Thanks Much

i work indirect and average about 20-25 hours a week, though it feels like much more, and average about $12-18 an hour obviously depending on the week and which of my @#$%&*# customers will return their phone. alluvin was right. your customer service skills don't mean a thing here. it's survival, baby. bank customers probably don't normally (and i say normally b/c you've probably never experienced a bank robbery...if you have...congratulations. you're still alive.) threaten your life and limb. you will become the source of everyone's problems, regardless of what you do, how nice you are or how far you bend over backward to help them. i've found that the more you help someone, someone else who is even more of an idiot or more of a jerk will c...

addendum to previous post:

i don't hate my job. i hate jerks who happen to also be sprint customers. since you're the most visible sprint employee they know, they WILL take it out on you. other than that, it's a fun job and rather good for college students (such as myself) in that it pays well and affords you free nights every night of the week.

Hmmmm...Maybe I might consider it then. I'm going to school and kinda wanna job change...People are jerks when it comes to their money. They will get very rude and nasty and really mean...however, they need to understand that I have to follow policy and if I slip on things I could get terminated. But there are nice people out there too. But yeah I'm with ya...I love my job...just the people can kinda bring ya down...I let them get to me...lol...

Thx

No Robbery yet...lol

But one question I have is what sorta problems do you CSR's usually face? I mean like isn't a prime of what you guys do are like new lines of service, upgrades, and plan changes...? Then again people come in to the bank for FAR more than deposits, withdrawals, and loan payments...I guess I guess I just can't really see what people will come to a cell phone store other than the above mentioned...Me nor my family have NEVER gone in to a cell phone store. We've never had anyproblems. Just went in once to add another line one...hmmmm. oh well....Any one wanna add?

most of my business are bill payments. the people who either don't have a checking account (a new demographic for you) or just like to give their money to someone with a pulse. i'd be lying if i said our primary interests aren't in selling phones, whether they be upgrades, new acts, or otherwise. but, like i said, i'm an indirect so we get what amounts to the "overflow" from the corp. store. but on any given phone, i average about 20 bucks, plus an hourly of around 6.50.

as far as problems: 1. no account access. that's it. people come to pay their bills and ask me how much the balance is. so i call CS for them.
2. sales push items (posters, flyers, etc...) that arrive late or not at all.

you'd have to talk to someone who works at a ...

So Is an indirect like an independent dealer or....?
...
Alluvin

May 23, 2006, 4:27 PM
yes. in my area the only indirect stores are those set up by alamosa, so they can't do anything but take payments and do activations(aka piss customers off if they actually need service)

actually, we're a former alamosa market, and the only things i can't/haven't done is add notes to the account and/or have a technician look at the phone...though i will tell the customer that the tech won't touch it due to the water damage, scrapes, etc... granted, i don't have a magical button. but what i do have the integrity to inform the customer of what i can and can't do, and not forget that they are in fact the reason that i'm getting paid. and i don't think that we (indirect or corporate) piss anyone off any more than we (sprint collectively) piss them off. people in general get pissed off. just as people at the DMV hear about having to wait for an hour every 5 minutes, so dost thine corporate store.

You sound like you've been here before. don't forget that we take alot of crap from people comign from express(3rd party) stores =)

ok i'll explain how i get, but it'll be better/worse than yours in that my commision **should** be higher.

i target making 1200 a month in commision if i sell my 26 phones.

Hourly i'm supposed to be making 8.80 i think(i've never seen it, they keep pushing back giving us all that raise for god knows what reason) so in theory i should be making 2,800 a month. but all that is before tax and based off of just hitting my quota. good luck!

Dealing with customer in retail is a very delicate thing. There was a guy in my store dealing with my Lead Retail Consultant (senior, kind of like an assitant to the manager) and he was screaming and yelling and saying F*** every five seconds. He was in the front of the store and I could hear him all the way in the back of the store. It was nuts. I had 911 dialed up on my phone incase I needed to call someone. Also, customer care likes to tell customers one thing and what we do in our store is another thing so they screw over our customers alot. Just today I had a lady come in and CC told her she was eligible for $150 off a sprint handset when switching from nextel when she just baught her I560 in January. I told her that she was not eligibl...

if your interested in good deals on service (employee discount) and you want to make some good money including bonuses, 401k profit sharing, short term and long term incentives, have good benefits, and have your customer care experience mean something think about working for VZW it can be hard to get a job sometimes because vzw looks/wants the best of the best but it's well worth it and you won't regret it! not to mention there's not another wireless carrier in the u.s. that's as profitable or debt free as vzw.

no you silly fool.. VZW is ominpotent and omnipresent.. that's why they back you up with an unreasonable number of support personnel (a la commercials) and pass you around like a spent joint. Not to mention that Wirless, Landline & DSL couldn't get on the same page if they tried.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to disagree with this. The verizon corp store near me has employed the largest bunch of incompetent and inconsiderate reps I've ever seen. Customers absolutely dread going to that store because they know they're going to be treated poorly and are going to wait at least an hour for said treatment.

as a 10 going on 11yr employee, I'll tell you right off the bat, working in care is not going to get you more money... benefits are decent, tution reimbursement, of course the free services phone, etc, etc.. however... there are still many changes taking place due to the merger and now the separation of Embarq from Sprint Nextel. Plus we have acquisitions taking place in the coming months that will change the scope of things. My suggestion is that you consider a Sales or Sales support job within your territory, don't hesitate to check out the sprint.com website and look over the open job offerings...

I don't know about the Corporate Sprint stores, but Sprint Kiosk/ Radio Shack is a pretty cool company to work for- if you don't mind dealing with some pretty ignorant people (both Sprint call center people and customers) every now and then. Most of the problems at Sprint stem from customers whose 'phone jus got cut off' and want to know how much they need to pay to 'get it cut back on.' Seriously, this is about 50% of the customers. Sprint and Nextel seem to attract people with bad credit because they have low deposits and cheap phones. The problems usually come when the customer recieves the first bill which put them over their spending limit.

Sprint kiosks in GA start out paying $7/hr base plus commission. I ususlly made ab...
