I already have a phone for sprint, and i was thinking about adding a second line, but dose any one knows about the family plan. If so can you tell me about it and how it works. since i have a ready link phone on the first line will i have to add the ready link on the second line in order to use the ready link. The plan i was thinking about getting is $40= with 500 minutes. I live in Chicago area. last and not lest how much do you think it will cost.
thanks, nobio0.

Do you need nationwide coverage? If so that is probably the best plan for you if the minutes are good. If just regional coverage is fine then there is a 1000 anytime and unlimited night and weekend plan for $45.00 for the first line and $20.00 for each additional line.
Your home area is limited to the Sprint PCS network in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.

Readilink is a line level feature (it only affects the phone number it is attached to) and only needs to be on one of the lines.
You get it free for the first to months so you can "try it before you buy it" after that it is $10.00 per month.

This is one thing I admit I am a bit unclear on. Does it have to be on each line that wants to have two-way? It seems based on your text that it would, since it affects only the line its on.

Yes. Readilink is a line level charge. For those reading this post who are unaware of the different types of charges there are account level; one charge that affects all lines on the account (Free and Clear America, nights starting at 7pm) and line level charges which pertain to a particular phone number on the account (Vision, Readilink, phone replacement, etc.) The flexibility to have it on some lines and not on others makes it attractive to small businesses who also have family members on the account. At $10.00 per line it is way cheaper than Verizon which forces a $59.99 for 400 anytime cellular minutes, unlimited nights and weekends and PTT. It's not quite Nextel, but then Nextel is behind the power curve on coverage because they cannot...

That's what I thought. Thanks for the clarification. Its not a huge seller in my area, so info is a bit hard to come by on it. Not a shot or anything, but I think in the last year I have seen like 2 ReadyLink phones. Nextel is very embedded here because we have tons of contractors and construction companies, stuff like that. Nextel has them locked in tight until they see something better and cheaper, or at least as good.

I am dying to see what Cingular rolls out with. Looks like it will be Kodiak on GPRS, but its still kinda hush hush. I want those contractors, dammit! 😈

True Nextel doesn't roam off other carriers but there is one advantage to that. All Nextel features and services work 100% of the time. Verizon's and Sprint's PTT service DO NOT work if the phone is roaming, or in analog service for Verizon. I don't know how the Kodiak solution works on Cingular but there may be limitations as well.

Wow, if I am broken down in a non-nextel area, I can use the phone to wound a pigeon, tie a note to his leg and pray he brings help!

There was a case where some captured pigeons got mixed up and used with Allied Pigeons 😲 . The Germans got those classified messages during D-Day in WW-II. 😳
