How could this be?

I currently have Cingular, but my friend had a Sprint phone. It was the Sanyo SCP-200. And his phone has only had one bar in my house. And it was wierd because I have Cingular, and I can only get one bar in my house. And Cingular and Sprint run on totally different technologies. So on CDMA phones don't you have to update your phone? And when my friends that have Verizon, their phones work perfecto in my house. Couldn't Sprint roam on Verizon? It's kinda in a rural area, it's out in Ham Lake, Minnesota. Another problem around my school, it's in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. And my friend gets horrible reception in my school. While I have full bars. While, my friends with Verizon don't even have a problem. So what's up with this? Is the northern sub...

The new plans on Sprint (Fair and Flexible) include CDMA (Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular, etc...) roaming off the Sprint network. Sprint phones have the ability to be locked to a roaming mode called "Sprint Only". When they are locked to "Sprint Only", they will only pick up Sprint towers. When they are set to "Automatic", they have the ability to work off other CDMA towers. I don't live anywhere near there, so I can't comment on your local coverage.

You can update your PRL (Preferred Roaming List) on CDMA phones, and that may do the trick if he has an outdated PRL. There is no on network update that Sprint phones need to do. But, if your phone is set to "Automatic", the PRL update may help.

As far as the phone choice, the Sanyo ph...

Agree, looking under settings and roaming options on your friends sprint phone and change it to automatic, it may help some reception wise. I always have my phone on automatic and i always have reception weater in Atlanta, or up in the mountains of north georgia. I would also suggest a Sanyo phone when you switch over to Sprint, preferably the Sanyo-8300 or the 7500.

Well, it COULD roam on Verizon, but why would you want to? Apparently it found a Sprint tower before it chose to roam. different companies have different towers in different areas based upon whatever agreement they make with the property owner or property they purchase. Verizon does get great reception, however beware of the total cost of your plan vs. minutes you use and DEFINITELY look at their taxes and fees in your area. VZW brochures in this market state their taxes and fees can range from 6% to a whopping 26% of your base plan cost! Sprint runs about 8-9% total here.

If you get Sprint and use your phone out of network, you'll be sorry....

Sprint's PCS Vision packages are great, but if you mainly use your phone for calling, you're gonna regret getting Sprint if living in rural areas that don't have strong signals from Sprint towers. Been there, done that.

😈

"With unlimited Sprint PCS roaming plans, Sprint may terminate service if a majority of minutes in a given month are used while roaming."

Only a lawyer could come up with something that convoluted. It's unlimited, but it's not unlimited.

As we said before, the roaming is the same as Verizon and everyone else.

As far as the Minneapolis area goes I've only had great service with Sprint around there, but I haven't been through Coon Rapids.

Prove it. I have yet to find anything in Verizon's policies or my calling plan to substantiate what you're saying.

i work for us cellular & they have a similar policy. according to my area manager, if you roam more than 50% of the time us cellular has the right to disconnect your service (there is no disconnect fee if that happens).

OK, I've lived in Coon Rapids most my life until last month... and I used to have TMOBILE and now I sell VZW and before TMO I had SPRINT and AT&T. My sister just switched form sprint to VZW too (also in CR). The reason she switched wasn't as much the signal as it was the renewing your contract no matter what and her txts never worked and the poor customer service she had. I'm not saying Spint has poor customer service, she just received that when she called in. She has VZW now (actually in Mounds View now but still pretty close to you) and has had no complaints about cust. service or signal. I hope that helps. I'm not trying to lure you, I'm just trying to help w/ real life stories. (Especially since I know your area WELL)
