That was true with any phone. Even without GPS they have a general idea where you are based on tower location. You phone, while powered on, is always transmitting and receiving to the network.

I think Danny Ocean has been watching Enemy of the State one too many times.

Acutally gov't entities are not allowed to own publicly runs networks. This is why there is such an issue with the munipal WiFi plans.

If you have some sort of proof I'd like to see it.

What part of the west are YOU from?

They do fine in MY part of the west, Cingular and Tmobile don't have the coverage and Verizon is too expensive and has too high of a deposit for a lot of my customers.

I'm in west Phoenix AZ (thats Arizona, just in case your "underground" doesn't know where this ground is)

The Feds can listen to any technology (iDEN, CDMA, GSM, etc.) they want. The trick is that they listen to it off the switch with a wire-tapping court order.

They don't waste any time trying to listen to it off the air.

you know all the phones have a gps chip in them, and most (if not all) providers will provide authorities with the location of someone (not exact but within 90 degrees or something of a particular tower), i believe one of them will even give them the triangulated location to within a few miles...

Some people sure have an elevated sense of self worth. What makes a lot of Americans think that their general conversation is worth someone tapping into and listening/recording anything they have to say? Do you have any idea how expensive it is in manpower, and costs to listen and record everything someone communicates during a day? Trust me, they need a really really strong reason to want to spend that kind of effort and money to monitor your conversation. If your worried about it, what are you doing to attract attention? I am more afraid of those who are worried than I am of the governments ability to listen in. I could care less if the government or anyone has the ability to listen to my calls, because I know I am not a target for t...
