Sigh. NO you can't communicate with Nextel subscribers. NO you can't communicate with other Sprint subscribers that don't have a ready-link capable phone.

If I do buy this phone i'm the only one that I know of that has a sprint walkie....so that's kinda pointless.... 🙄

there is more to the 8200 then the rl(walkie). it does have the camera and the awsome screen as well as the speaker phone..... but let us not for get the most important thing..... it is a sanyo! ie better signal, longer life more dependable and clearer calls.

as for being the only one with RL it has only been avalible since nov. so you are the only one now. but what happends when a year from now your friends do have it? you will have to wait till you have had your phone 18 months if you want to get rebates.

the way i look at it is this ask your self the question, "if i buy this phone how likely would it be that 6 months down the road i am going to wish i had bought the other phone.

That's true...I guess I'm gonna have to look into it a little more...before I do anything...

What kinda rebates do you get if you have a phone for over 18months?

I think I've had the phone I have now for almost that long...

After having your current handset for 18 months you are eligible to receive a 150.00 dollar mail in rebate for agreeing to continue service for an additional 2 years. Currently the least expensive place to purcahse is BBY. 99.99 after all rebates. About Redi-Link currrently Sprint is No. 2 with over 250,000 Redi link users. Second to Nextel

did y'all know its an extra 20 bucks a month for using ready link.... none of my friends have it yet, and I'm not gonna pay an extra 20 bucks to not use it...I'll probably just wait awhile before I get it....

Actually it is 10.00 per month for unlimited Redi Link. 20.00 per month for Redi Link and Vision.

oh really...that's not what the guy at the sprint store told me....maybe he said 20 because I already have a vision phone and just assumed that I would use it for that one also... 😕

Any X-NEXTEL users here who use Redi-Link? Not like I'm ready to jump over, just curious on how it compares in set-up and latency performance. I tried Verizon's a few weeks back in a store and đŸ¤Ŗ all the way home as it just didn't compare.

I do not have Nextel but have several friends who do. There is a difference between the the latency because of different technologies used to transmit the information. nextel uses, basically, a 2 way signal. Sprint uses a voice over IP technology. The difference is Sprints technology has to bundle the entire message before sending and Nextel does not. This is about the only difference in the performance side. The upside to sprint is the phone selection and Analog coverage that you do not receive with Nextel. Although the redi link will not work of the Sprint Network you are not stranded without a phone. Go to any Sprint store and have them Demo the redi link.

Thanks for the response. I'm pretty much aware of the technical differences (NEXTEL's modified Motorola SmartNet/SmartZone protocol and Sprint's VoIP) but was looking for a former NEXTEL user who made the switch and their experiences.

I'll have to go look at the Sprint up close and personal as their phones are very nice looking and even though NEXTEL recently came out with their new i860 that I went to look at, I wasn't very impressed.

I like the part about being able to roam where I can't with NEXTEL. I'm doing more consulting in areas where NEXTEL is marginal or non-existent and like everyone else, I need dependable service.
