I am going to switch from ATTWS (GOOD RIDDANCE) back to Sprint pcs. What do i go about doing? I expect they are going to make this as difficult as possible.

From what I've seen on my end @ Radio Shack all you need to do is leave the existing account alone, bring your most recent wireless phone bill to us and we take care of the rest. When the port is finished your old account will auto cancel (incurring early term fees if they apply) and your new phone will work with your old phone #, a 10-12 hour delay is expected at 1st and dropping soon afterward 🙂

ruf-jason is right. The new provider has to initialize the transfer. Sprint will notify ATT to release number. Also note that once transfer is conplete, it is possible for both phones to still operate on that number for a very short period. Once porting has begun or/and is complete, it is against FCC regulations for the old carrier to try and "retain" you. Just a FYI. 🙂
