What about text messaging?

i was reading the specs for the 5500 and 5400 and they say text messaging but the 5400 uses shortmail will the 5500 have text ??

I was informed by a Sprint PCS rep that text messaging will be available mid-December. No idea with what phones... the current Nokia is capable of it though.
