Planning on switching...Advice?

Here's the thing:

I'm currently with T-Mobile for my second 1-year contract. I have considered moving to Sprint, tho. I thought about Cingular, but they want a $600 deposit, so no to that one. I heard Sprint only makes you pay, at most, $125. So, that sounded better.

I love T-Mobile, but they are behind the times. They have no plans on upgrading their spectrum, I think it is, till 2007? Come on now. That's BEHIND. They aren't keeping up with the rest of the companies out there. Especially in the phone department. I have been trying to hold out for some new phones, but I see nothing coming soon.

Another reason I wanted to try Sprint is because of the merger happening soon. I wanted to know if I could possibly get even better coverag...

I have never had anything but great service with Sprint. You have a 14 day risk free trial period (30 days in CA) so give it a try and see if Sprint is right for you. If you decide that Sprint isn't going to work out for you as your wireless provider, cancel with no early termination fee in the trial period and pay only for the amount of talk time that you have used on the phone.

If you decide to give Sprint a try...Welcome to Sprint PCS! 🙂

I have friend and cousin that use Sprint. They don't seem to have too many noticeable problems. So, I plan on thoroughly using that 14 day trial period to see if their coverage is at least as good as I've got with T-Mobile in Ohio.

first off, i have to say that, at least for me (but i imagine for hundreds of other people), TWO WEEKS is not nearly enough time test anything, and that's me being polite about it...any1 agree?

also, DaNubianPryns, did you say you were in Ohio? from what i've seen in other posts on this website, and from what i've heard from my brother who used to live in Chicago, SPCS service coverage area in the northern midwest region pales in comparison to T-mobile service up there (of course, this info may be a little outdated, and therefore no longer reliable, due to the fact that my brother moved to Texas about a year ago and now has SPCS coverage wherever he goes!)

finally, in response to Grantizzle's post: i resent the advice you gave this guy...

Be very afraid of switching to Sprint. I have been with Sprint before, and, locally, here in Chicago, there was so many spots with bad reception. When traveling, I had nothing but trouble. Even in a Sprint network area, I couldn't receive calls from my home town. The calls to me would not even go to my voicemail. THis was about a year and 1/2 ago. I know a few people who are on a Sprint contract. When they call me, it always sounds like they are underwater, whether they're calling long distance, or from in town. I know they're planning on changing after the contract's up.
Verizon's great. No trouble with traveling.
No dead spots in entire Chicago metro area, even into Indiana.
You can always try the 14 day trial of Sprint, but mak...

The service you receive may depend on the phone you are using. Some phones are defective from day one and do not provide you with what should be provided (voice clarity / coverage). Not every phone that is created is perfect...That is why they all come with a 12 month warranty. Then there are some phones that aren't very good to begin with.

It might be a good idea to add insurance to your phone in case it is ever lost, stolen, damaged, or broke...It is up to you. Some are gentle on their phones and some people are rough on their phones. You just have to decide which one you are and whether or not it would be worth the money to you.

I hope you find Sprint to meet your needs and if not, at least you can say that you gave it a good run! ...

If you are getting the Samsung MM-A800 Slider, you should not have a problem! 🙂 I think buying the cheapest phone offered is where a lot of people get into trouble when it comes time to holding a signal and getting great voice quality. Your service is as good as the phone you purchase! 😁

I surely hope so. I thought about getting the typical "free/budget" phone, but I would eventually want to move up the ladder. I am in love with new technology, so I think the A800 would be perfect for me. 😁

If your main goal is to get better, more up-to-date coverage, try Cingular or Verizon. The merger of Sprint and Nextel won't do a whole lot to improve service for a long while, if at all. Nextel uses IDEN technology, and Sprint uses CDMA (as does Verizon and US Cellular). Mixing 2 diff technologies meaning they keep both, or convert all to one. Sprint phones aren't compatible with Nextel service.
When Cingular merged with AT&T, the both were using GSM technology, so it wasn't that hard to merge the two. Sprint is acquiring Nextel due to it's large amount of business customers. Nextel gets all it's phone from Motorola, which is not the best in quality now. LG, Samsung, and Sanyo are better. I don't see the merger improving consumer se...

I encourage everyone to try the service out during the risk free trial period and decide if it will fit their needs. 🙂

In most areas (Corporate Sprint Markets), you have the option of adding Free & Clear America (Free & Clear Plan Upgrade) or Free & Flexible America (Fair & Flexible Plan Upgrade) to your Sprint PCS plan which allows you to use up to half of your minutes off the Sprint PCS Nationwide Network for an additional $5.00 per month. So if you go somewhere your Sprint PCS service doesn't work you can use roaming. With that addition you can use your phone almost anywhere you go...No need to worry about roaming charges and where your phone does or does not work! Plus, with the Free & Clear America or Fair & Flexible America upgr...
