Being first isn't always a good thing. I believe WiMAX was definitely not the right path for Sprint Nextel's 4G network. Globally as well as domestically speaking, LTE whips the llama's ass (as Winamp puts it) when it comes to 4G deployment Sgt Joker. This is one of the reason's why Dan Hesse, the Sprint Nexel CEO, doesn't want to see at&t absorb T-Mobile. 79% of not only the voice network/market(GSM) will be dominated by them and Verizon Wireless, but the data one(LTE) will be too. Why do you think 1xEVDO Rev B was abandoned? You got it, WiMAX. If Sprint Nextel ends up going LTE, which I sure they will once Steven Elfman sniffs the Columbian Jaun Valdez Gold, there will be a bunch of POed customer who have already purchased 3/4G devices and...

I believe that they will. There have been too many press releases crowing about how soon they could switch to LTE. If you love the woman you're with, you don't brag to anyone who will listen about how you could dump her for another lady whenever you feel like it. As far as Wi-Max being the incorrect path. I do not know if it is true, but nearly every Sprint-phile who defends Sprint for making that choice has insisted that Sprint had to use its spectrum or lose it and Wi-Max was ready and LTE was not at the time. If this IS the case then it would be nice if people would stop whipping Sprint for making the decision it did.

Sprint is no longer the “4G king,” BTIG Research analyst Walter Piecyk proclaimed on Friday following a massive speed test that pitted Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G against Verizon Wireless’ HTC ThunderBolt. Piecyk and his team conducted more than 1,000 speed tests in New York City to determine which was faster: the ThunderBolt, running on Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network, or the EVO 4G, running on Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network. The analyst found that Verizon’s offering was consistently and significantly faster than Sprint’s 4G phone. The speed tests were conducted using the integrated mobile hotspot functions on both devices, and the testers were equipped with both an Apple iPad 2 and a Toshiba laptop for the tes...

I don't think it's necessarily an LTE Vs. WiMax thing but moreso a frequency thing. I'm sure if WiMax was running on the same 700mhz band that ATT & Vzn have that it would be comparable speeds.

This is very damning. Sprint had best hire some firm to conduct its own test to refute this or this could be a PR nightmare.

Well, I mostly did it for 2 reasons. I wanted Android, and at that time, and well still now I don't find any of their Android smartphones to be desirable. Reason 2. Their raking in billions, and billions of $$$'s and yet did nothing during 08, 09, to increase 3G data speeds. I just felt like ATT wasn't ambitous ebough for me.

Anyway, I've been seeing you post recently, I just wasn't too sure if you were who I thought you were, or someone just happen to have a similar username.

Reguarding the Atrix & Inspire. I'm not into all touch phones. I'm one of those sorts of people who has to have a real, physical slideout keyboard. And in the category, ATT doesn't have any intriging Android smartphones with real, physical, slideout keyboards.

You know what? I even remember your gravatar! I believe it was a Roman soldier.

Another thing too is, I broke up with Motorola like a bad girlfriend!!! When I first joined Verizon I had the original Motorola Droid. The touchscreen was crap, the keyboard was crap, buttons even fell off!!! And the charging port was crap! The touchscreen would act all wacky while it was plugged in charging.

I have no complaints thus far about the LG Ally with the exception that it has way, way to...

They don't actually have to. The publishers of the study said that this was from one location and not to be taken as an example of service in all of NYC. They said that themselves. I'm pretty sure I can find more than a few spots where Verizon's LTE will perform worse than Sprint's 4G. I'm sure I can try it a thousand times and then I can publish this study and "prove" that LTE is worse than Wimax. And my "study" would be just as worthless as this one.

LTE could be blazing fast. I don't know and I will never personally experience it as long as Verizon plans to cap it. What's the point of going faster if I have to stop at an arbitrary line? Verizon has already said that LTE will only be Unlimited for a short while and then they are pulling the plug on that feature and users will have to sign up for the capped one. No thanks. I will ride 3G until they pull the plug on it.

1000 tests in the same place will ALWAYS give the same result. I question whether the moron that did the tests even knew how to turn on 4G on the Evo, as those "results" are obviously 3G service speeds.

I can produce the same exact test in the other direction if I find a place that has poor verizon service.. so if I do that test 2000 times, does that mean its twice as valid as this bullshit "research"

Oh and also.. this BTIG is the same "company" that decided that calling abunch of verizon stores and asking whoever picked up the phone which phone was selling better, and then call that a win for the thunderbolt over the iPhone.

Morons, and people are reporting it like its real information.

they goofed:

Bloggers agree. Zach Epstein from Boy Genius Reports writes, “Our tests support Sprint’s stance and further suggest that BTIG’s testing may have been flawed.” And Marin Perez from IntoMobile says, “In my experience with Sprint 4G WiMax, I’ve found that it does generally offer at least 5 Mbps.”

Remember, while speed tests will come and go, Sprint continues to offer consumers and businesses a dependable 4G network, more 4G devices and truly unlimited 4G plans. And this is why we are America’s favorite 4G network.

Listen, in order to make these claims you need to speak the TRUTH! Sprint is running more on 3.5g not real 4g. How many tablets does sprint have? Another point is where is this awesome phone selection? I can think of 2 maybe 3 and thats it. By the end of the summer verizon will have the droid x,droid x2, droid 2 global, droid 3, thunberbolt, bionic, incredible, incredible 2, galaxy s2, htc trophy and of course the iphone 4 and most likely the iphone 5 not to mention ipad, ipad 2, xoom, galaxy tabs, blackberry playbook and a slew more tabs so again state facts please. I promise when Verizon has as many 4G devices running on their networks that Sprint does, the numbers will change. Capacity affects speed. That's just science.
