Has anybody heard of a known defect or recall affecting HTC Evo phones or their batteries? In particular, I am looking for instances of alleged overheating or catching fire.

Any valid information is appreciated, thank you!

I've had mine since the early part of July 2010 and no such issues here yet. I've got all the recommended Security Software/Apps installed on mine, such as Advanced Task Killer, Advanced Task Cleaner, Antivirus, Lookout Mobile Security, etc. That said, I am "hypothesizing" that since I keep my task processes that typically are running under control to a point where minimal tasks are usually running at any given point of time, that this is not "Taxing" the hardware...

Yeah, it's not over my head. Thanks for the consideration.

I'm leaning away from viruses causing this, the 'UserX' in question really needs a simple phone and I've no clue why she got an Evo. No applications downloaded ever, believe it or not...

Anyways there is only one alleged report, I'm leaning toward it being a fake. Still waiting for more word though. HTC doesn't list any known defects regarding this (and if they did, I imagine a recall would be imminent).

in the misuse of the word "psychobabble".

It would be "Technobabble," if anything

And no, I have not heard anything about overheating EVOs at all, thus far.

Well, it was kind-of technobabble. Some interesting metaphors were used, but it was all good. I was rather amused.

I take it your appreciated what I had to say! 😉 I am an I.T. Professional so it sometimes inadvertently makes its way out. At any rate, I hope this advice on how to take care of your smartphone device comes to good use by those who read and can follow.

Not a defect or recall, but I have had my EVO since launch day, and I have noticed ON OCCASION that it does get very warm when charging. It does not happen every time.

The HTC Evo has several radios (CDMA, 1xRTT, EvDO r0, rA, WiMAX, GPS, Blutooth) and a 1GHz processor. These radios and 1GHz will definately drain and work your 1500 mAh battery if in use or running in the background. Keep in mind, this is a phone is similar to a computer (with out a fan to cool your device).

This makes it all the more critical to have adequate anti-virus, anti-malware and other security suite software apps installed on your Evo. This would reduce the risk of unintentionally downloaded spyware or perhaps even a Trojan Horse to hijack the device and run processes or services that are not wanted. This is for the simple reason to avoid having these spyware or trojan horses to acce...
