ugh no clue! torn...pre is amazing but the keypad is so small it gave me thumb cramps in the store....have the storm now...love everything about it but the BUGS lol

pre is a smartphone though, so assuming they have something other than telenav for it, you should be good (telenav might also work)

The biggest difference is uploads. so if you are just loading pages, the difference will be noticeable but barely (as long as they are 1x in those areas) But for sending pictures, uploading documents, you'll see the lag

That is another thing....i was in my local corp store and they told me that sprint works every single place vzw does...is that true? also they told me that if vzw has data then sprint has data and that everything is functional from sprint gps to mobile tv. is that true? finally the rep told me that whatever speed vzw gets there 3g etc that I will get even though it is a vzw tower i am roaming on.....he did say also that my battery will drain fast while roaming.

is this all true? if anyone knows for sure please help....i seem to hear different things from different reps locally.

no, you will get 1xtt when you are in an area sprint has roaming with, evdo will only work with native coverage. Sprint does not get full access to Verizon's 3g. There is a map showing a side by side comparison, but I can't find the link for it at the moment. Sprint has a much larger footprint than ATT, but verizon's is still bigger.

So no, you will not get 3g data if you are roaming, it will be limited to 1xrtt (verizon calls this National Access)

Your battery drains A LOT faster while roaming, for voice or data, because your phone is jumping to whatever tower gives it the best signal, while in native coverage, it will always connect to the same tower until it no longer can (you move)

i would primarily be sprint native coverage....i (to be honest) have just been spoiled by vzw. everywhere i go I have coverage and never have to worry about roaming....that is why I am so nervous (just tired of paying so much)

nights and weekends (as I understand it) also take from your "anytime" minutes while roaming. I'll let a Sprint rep answer that for you. (Dont ask the guy at that corp store, sounds like he won't give you the straight answer)

there are places verizon roams, but their nationwide plans treat roaming as native coverage for basically everything (some high end data features may not work). They have large native coverage, but even when they roam, its different than roaming with another carrier.

No, nights and weekends work during roaming, its mobile to mobile that doesn't work while roaming.

ok so essentially everything is the same when in the grey roaming area as when in sprint native coverage except for faster battery drain and mobile to mobile doesn't work....also high end data features and speed such as gps may or may not work?

waht about phones? right now we have storms...LOVE the screen and capability...I have fat fingers so the screen having the big area for typing helps. I dont like the bugs and battery life.

sprint may be adding customers in that store, but as a whole, they are not having phenomenal growth (unless they suddenly gained over a million adds this quarter so far)

Honestly, if you are going with sprint, check out the Hero, it is a full touchscreen device, it's not a tap-touch like the storm though (no click) That or the Tour. I know the buttons are smaller, but they feel really nice to type on (I have fat fingers as well)

If I were on sprint, I would have one of those two phones. (Android's default browser is better than blackberry, at least for the moment)

Yeah I totally agree about the browser on android. The hero seems to be the phone you want it is a tad laggy according to reviews but you are probably used to that on the storm 🙂

fyi, I have the Tour for Vzw right now and I love it and I have big fingers. Took me about 5 days to get used to it, but texting is a breeze now.

Tempted by the Verizonhtcandroid (whatever they call it) though.. hopefully I can hold out.

yea i looked at the pre...AMAZING but bad reviews and the incredibly small keypad kill me. seriously it is like little dots.

the hero was nice...kind of reminded me of the vzw dare.

the storm is definitely laggy and freezes and if i use any apps at all the memory leaks like mad....actually has made me really gunshy towards smart phones now.

i would love the touch pro2 but can get myself to spend that much.

You have a 800 min cap or something around that. Also, you have a cap on data, etc.

I think he is talking about roaming data, not data while in native coverage.

Even in roaming, only time you have a data cap in roaming its with a air card. Its 300mb roaming data cap, then after that you get charged.

It sounds like Verizon81 may have encountered a shady rep UNLESS he lives in an area where Sprint had a data roaming agreement with Alltel. I believe Verizon has to honor any of Alltel's roaming agreements (until they expire) which would be the only areas loaded in Sprint's listings for EV-DO.

VZW611LA is the Verizon version of what you experienced in the Sprint Store. Will tell you whatever you need to hear to stay with Verizon.

Take a look at the Sprint coverage map. It will take you everywhere Verizon will take you. I've been a Sprint customer for 6 years and I've gone all over the country. I've never been anywhere that my phone wouldn't at least have a roaming signal.

I used a Verizon company phone for a while. The service is quite comparable...except my Sprint phone doesn't drop my call in that damn spot by the airport that Verizon always dropped.

My wife carries the 1st generation instinct. Not a great high tech phone, but an excellent entry level touch screen.

I just go the Hero yesterday. I'm still learning everything but it is a nice looking phone. Prior to that I carried the Samsung Rant. That was a great phone with some awful software...even after all of the updates.
