Also Considering Coming Over from Verizon

I have been a Verizon customer for > 16 years, and happy with my service and phones during that time. However, I am strongly considering Sprint due to Simply Everything $99 plan and the LG Lotus phone. I do not want a smartphone but want the best, most reliable phone possible that is not a touch screen. I, too, am very concerned about the poor customer service reputation of Sprint, as Verizon has treated me very well. However, the $99 plan is a huge value.

I am concerned about how often I will be roaming in the midwest (NE, IA, SD, MN, IL, etc.) as the SE plan has restrictions on < 800 roaming mins. per month, less than 1/2 of data usage on roaming, etc. Sprint appears to be great in large cities and on the Interstate system, but f ...

We have a corp accout with Sprint, and switched from Verizon. Our jobs are spreadout throughout the midwest. Our phone service has suffered a little, but the customer service has been exceptional. This may be due to the number of lines we have with them, but I have never had an issue with their billing/customer service.

As for the roaming charges, we have never been charged for roaming. If I'm not mistaken, they can't bill you for roaming, but can terminate your contract if you roam too often. I think the FCC has stopped the cell carriers from changing the cosumer, and the cost is incurred from the company. i.e.~if you are a sprint customer, roaming on AT&T tower, sprint flips the bill. Make sense? Not to mention the sprint phones...

Well the way I see it is I have 5 lines and drop about $140/month, I've only had one bad experience and it was cleared up. the problem in the past with poor customer experience has a lot do with misconception by customers, things such as texts cost money that's why we have a plan for value and other things like if you pay your bill every month your bill will be the same every month as well as long time customers trying to get the latest greatest phones with their old $20/month plan that they got when they threatened to cancel 4 years ago. Technology changes and so must the plans that's not customer service stuff although most perceive it as this....

Case in point #1 - Asian woman calls in wants instinct for free and keep her old $15 Fre...

This makes me laugh. These "type" of customers call in on every provider. It's more than just losing people that ask for unrealistic things. You don't get a bad rep from turning down a request. You get bad reps by HOW you turn people down or how you handle problems.

That is so true. It's not what you say...it's how you say it. It's all about hiring likable people to do your sales and service...be it in the phone or in person. Of course, not everyone is likable so for those you have to have intense training/coaching in call centers or just let them go in retail. Sorry, it is very hard to fake it in person. Obviously, Sprint now is fighting its reputation from the past, but in its call centers I wonder what type of training they give their reps today. I do not know...

Thanks to everyone for your comments, they are helpful. I agree that you can lose customers who have unreasonable expectations that you are unable to meet. I have also read how some of the issues arise from the ongoing merger between Sprint and Nextel.

I noticed the Samsung Strut, but see it will only have 1.3 MP camera, likely will not have secret function in contacts, etc. It may not have nice things like Opera Mini HTML browser, document reader (cool for non-smartphone), 1000 char. notes in the Notepad app, etc. However, it does look like it will share many similarities with the Lotus.

For people who like the Lotus, Verizon sells a case for the Blitz that is also positioned to work nicely with the Lotus.

My Circle/Friends and...

Coverage in MN is great. This area used to be an affiliate market and so towers were put in many areas that corporate guys never would have. I have been in many backwoods areas and many places my Sprint is better than friends Verizon phones. I have had coverage everywhere they have, and have lived here my whole life and have had Sprint since 2000. Give it a try, the plans are awesome, and you have a 30 day trial;what have you got to lose? 🙂

I switched from VZ to Sprint 2.5 years ago.
The Sprint customer service used to be horrid. But in the last year it's been exceptional with no issues at all.

VZ has a dead spot near my house (Pittsburgh). Sprint coverage there is fine.

Remember that off peak for VZ starts at 9 pm while Sprint starts at 7 pm. That's a big difference for me.
