massive phone issue, grounds for ETF waive?

Seaborn111

So i have a q9, been with sprint for about 2.5 years now. Renewed in April.

Yesterday, i learn i've been missing text messages (and apparently many phone calls, but i can't recreate that part) from a handful of business partners.

Bottom line is, i missed out on about 15 sales. Enough to pay for the ETF, six months of service and a round of beers on my current sero plan.

Sprint simply says "take your phone to a repair center. we're not waiving the fee"

is this avoidable? this one occasion is enough for me to switch (I currently work for Cricket, and have only kept sprint because of my Sero plan and the EVDO data which we now have)

device problem is not grounds to waive an etf, as far as ive ever seen. if its fixable, get it fixed, and if its not, hope you have insurance. i know it sounds rude, but as a company, it is not sprints fault that the phone stopped working. you always have the option of sending it to the manufacturer, but we all know that no one ever does that.

i guess i could also add that i'm about 80% sure my phone has no issue, it's a service issue.

if you allow them to swap the phone out, that will prove your point, and IF the issue still occurs, then yes, its a service problem. in that case, if sprint cannot fix it, i agree they should waive the ETF.

which is why i said let them swap it out. if another one does it, then its obviously a service issue, not a device issue.

The first text message I sent with Sprint took over ten minutes to get to the recipient, different phone.
In my research Sprint has a text messaging filter service under your 'mysprint.com' account witch many seem to think maybe the culprit to delayed text messages. I wonder if this is due to the extreme weather in the Southeast lately?
Although if this were a bigger problem there'd be more complaints posted. Although I feel you're pain, text messages and voice mail ain't rocket science!

SO you missed out on a few calls. Crap happens deal with it.

As a salesman I always have a back up phone just in case something goes wrong. A cheap activated prepaid for back up saved me many sales when my phone was not working.

You fool!!!

You carry a back up phone in anticipation that your phone will fail???

You are just the type of customer that Sprint wants; one that will accept it's failures and plan ahead by adding another phone. In turn, you generate more profit for Sprint.

Switch to a company that has superior service and call quality, which ever one that is in your local area.

That's not foolish at all. It applies across a lot of different products.

I have a friend who is a touring musician/music director. He runs various things his Macbook Pro. It's vital to everything. It would almost be an unplugged performance without it. So, he carries a backup Macbook Pro, just in case... That's the necessity of the job.

If a lot of money or important things ride on it, have a contigency plan.

I've seen this before on Windows Mobile devices, mainly on the HTC Touch. There are things you can do before the swap that might make it so you don't have to take it to the repair center.

First turn your phone off once a day, this allows Windows Mobile to refresh and not get tied up, just like a PC, keeping it on all the time is not good.

Second back it up to your computer, backing up your information on a PDA phone is never a bad idea. Often enough when a PDA phone gets to a point that people take it to a sevice center it's too late for them to recover anything.

Thirdly learn how to do a hard reset. If you have any third party software on your phone that could be an issue. i.e. Most stuff you can get from ppcgeeks.com.

If none ...

You need to stop telling people its covered under TEP. its NOT! you'll have to do a insurance claim. For PDA's WITH TEP it costs up to $119, oftentimes its best to just do the insurance deductible. They update these terms on the 8th of September. But as of Cricket, I used to have them when I was a little kiddo. Text used to never even send! I would receive them 20 minutes later, oftentimes I would have to re-send the text, and then an hour late rthe receiving party would get 4 or 5 of the same text lol. I reside in a Rev-A area where Cricket launched the Broadband service. Ppl still complain of the same issue. But I would try doing something else. Like a hard reset like Drake said. I doubt Customer Care will budge, they'll say to take it to ...

Sprint2008, I usually respect what you have to say, and you're usually right about things, but you need to brush up on this topic. Like I said in my post, "NO charge as long as there is no liquid damage, cracked screen, or physical damage" I work in a service repair center, this IS how it works.

This is right out of my handbook.

What is the policy?
Effective September 8th, all repairs resulting from physical damage is no longer covered by ESRP at $0. Customers enrolled in TEP/ERP with
physically damaged devices may submit an insurance claim. Customers not enrolled in TEP/ERP with PHYSICALLY damaged devices may opt to
pay a per incident repair service fee of $99 (non-PDA) or $119 (PDA).

What is considered Physical Damage
To avoid...

Technically, the same as what was always printed in the brochures.

ESRP (equipment service and repair plan) covers manufacturers defects and normal wear & tear type situations. It does not cover physical damage to devices. It's a store repair plan that takes care of things at the store repair center instead of sending a phone to the manufacturer, also covering some things a little more liberally than manufacturers typically do.

ERP (equipment replacement plan) aka insurance. It takes care of physical damage, lost/stolen, water damage, etc. Basically most things except intentional self-inflicted damage, police/government action, nuclear events, and other end-of-the-world scenarios. If Hurricane Ike takes out your phone, you're cove...

No, that's not grounds for an ETF waive. Regarding coverage issues, the only significant one is for coverage to diminish in previously serviceable locations and for them to decline to fix it. If it's a tower issue and they decide to fix it, then the downtime is a forseeable risk, one specifically non-warrantied by the terms of the service contract. Only if they acknowledge the issue and then decline to fix it, such as if a tower goes out in a remote area where it's little used anyway, is that sufficient grounds to waive the contract. (that or death of the user)

That said, it quite often happens as a matter of conducting business. It depends on the circumstances. In all reality, though, it's a wireless network. As someone in the ind...

Check your ROM Version on your phone. If it's behind, that could be why your phone acts corrupted, sprint provides the voice and data services..if it's a Phone defect, I recommend speaking with the device manufacturer Motorola.
