Sprint Noobie

Just had a few questions because ive been looking at the htc diamond which is the phone im most likely to get.

is rev A faster than 3G? Because i used my girls iphone and ive used and instinct. it was the original iphone and it was much faster than the instinct. so im guessing installing the 3G on a phone would make it a hell of a lot faster. concluding that 3G is much superior.

2.
can it be said that a windows phone is inferior to an iphone when comparing the web browsing. ive heard that window devices freeze often. things like this make me second guess my purchasing of the diamond.

It's hard to accurately test mobile internet speeds, many factors can affect performance. But I promise you that, operating at peak performance, there's no way the iphone 1 is faster then the Instinct. This is besides the fact that the iphone 1 lacked 3G... Hence the '3G' moniker on it's successor. The exact numbers escape me, but the company line is that Sprint has the fastest data network - I believe this is true, but the difference is only moderate. As for Windows Mobile, I've not used it personally, but it's a respected mobile OS - Consistent freezing would make it rather hard to pitch, I would think.

1. rev a is 3g. EVDO is the cdma 3g technology and rev a is the second iteration of it. It is comparable in speeds to HSDPA which is the GSM 3g technology. I think however in terms of network deployment sprints 3g covers a much wider area than does att's. This is the factor you want to look into. Which network has more 3g in your area.

2. An I phone is different from a windows mobile phone in that you cannot have more than 1 application running at the same time. Because of this it is very reliable and hardly freezes. It compensates for this by having very fast load times so you dont so much notice the deficit. A windows mobile phone is just like a computer. If you keep lots of apps running at the same time it will slow down you...

Besides sky fire are there other programs one can download that are reliable. also whats with OPERA 9.5 i think? how can you upgrade from the 6.1 opera to the one i mentioned before? does the phone company do this on your phone or do you have to pay for the service as if your buying a new pair of sneakers?

I believe the touch diamond comes with an upgraded version of opera 9.5. haven't played with it yet but it will have dynamic zoom and should be pretty good. Look at it this way, if you want flexibility and are willing to take ulb a learning curve then the windows mobile is the phone for you. If you're very media centric or use itunes a lot or font want to do much to it once you take it out of the box then the iphone is the better choice. that is of course assuming carrier coverage is equal.
