When is QChat coming to SC????

I've been waiting for this QChat since way back in 2006 when Sprint Announced that Qualcomm was writing this new program. I was even more excited when they announced earlier this year that it was now available in Atlanta. I live in Spartanburg, SC which is about an hour from Atlanta, and it still isn't available here. A Sprint Rep in Greenville SC told me last week that the technology is available in Greenville, which is 45 minutes away from here, and that if I bought a QChat phone, I could only use it in Greenville, even though it's not sold there at this time. This is getting frustrating. Why is it so hard to launch something this new and exciting all at once? Does it use different airwaves than the regular Sprint service?

The new Nextel Direct Connect on Sprint handsets, currently the Sanyo Pro 200 & 700, Samsung Z400 and LG LX400, use Sprint's EVDO Rev A network to transmit the PTT over VoIP via the QChat Solution. Sprint is suppose to be launching these handsets in non EVDO Rev A markets mid August. You can have one of the handsets directed shipped from a corporate retail store now with the understanding you will not be provisioned with the HPPT (high performance push to talk) service until Spartanburg, SC is turned up with the Sprint EVDO Rev A network.

I am a corp. rep in Greenville, SC. We can NOT direct ship these devices. We have had orders from telesales for customers and the phones never worked, not even a normal voice call.

Rev A is in parts of Greenville but I do not know if you noticed that corp & dealers will not be selling aircards anymore. In SC, most of the state did not have evdo service through Sprint rather through a data agreement with Alltel. Since Verizons recent purchase of Alltel, Verizon will not agree to Sprnit using this service, so for now we will NOT have Qchat phones.

It sucks i know, but thats the answer. let me know if you have anymore questions.

I ended up buying a qchat phone from ebay this week and got it in the mail today. I didn't read your post to my original question until tonight, after I've already activated the phone. the phone, evdo and all the other things work perfect on the phone, except the DC. So you're saying it's going to be a long time before it will work since all of this verizon/alltel stuff is happening now? Dang! can you give me any king of guess? Nov, dec?

Im in the St. Louis market and I know Sprint launched the Q chat option in our market and I think Chicago as test markets for it. This was probably just a month ago. To my understanding, I thought it was launched everywhere. I would call and make sure all the SOC codes are added to the account right. You need to have the Unlimited DC added and two required SOC codes on there for the DC to work. After those are added you need to go into your settings and click on data and update your data profile.
