Jumping ship from Verizon to Sprint.. need help with something

Ok, after a long great run with Verizon for six years i may be moving to sprint because of their cheap plans and extra features at no charge. The only problem is that sprint has no service at my house. A friend of mine has sprint with no service at his house either but said he put his Upstage phone on roam mode, allowing his phone to pick up a Verizon signal. Since Verizon works fine at my house, could i do the same and purchase a sprint phone and put it to roam mode as well so it will work just fine? are there any cons with having it on roam mode? any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

YES you will get kicked up of sprint for roaming to much. Verizon works at your HOME because they have the better Network! Stick with verizon!!!!!!! Sprint is losing million and millions of customers do to a crappy network and customer service!!

You most certainly could do that, however there are some cons;

1.) If more than 50% of minutes are roaming for three consecutive months Sprint may terminate your contract. But contrary to what a VZW rep will tell you, they will not kick you off the first month this happens.

2.) When you are roaming, ALL of minutes that you use are counted against your anytime minutes, no free mobile to mobile, no night and weekend minutes.

If these two issues are of no concern to you then you will be in a great situation with Sprint. If they are then you may want to consider staying with Verizon.

RE YOU KIDDING ME?! woww i had no idea that sprint would hustle me like that. That is rediculous. leme ask something else- Why would they say roaming is included making me feel like its ok to roam on Verizons tower then try to hustle me and terminate my contract if the bulk of my airtime is used in roam mode?????? is all this listed in the fine print?

Roaming is ok because Sprint recognizes that sometimes customers can get into an area an have no coverage and start to roam and they don't charge you for that. It doesn't hurt them that much. But if most of your minutes are in roaming, like what ATTGuyNY just said, it is not profitable for them anymore. They will warn you that majority of your minutes are into roaming and if scenario still persists, unfortunately they will terminate your service. ☚ī¸

Yes it is included in all carriers T's&C's. I really apologize that you feel that is hustling you, however you have to understand that from a business stand point, those roaming agreements cost money, and when you roam more than 50% of the time Sprint is no longer turning a profit on you, but rather you are costing them money.

I wouldnt worry about it too much, it is really hard to use more than 50% roaming unless you dont have a job or leave your home.

well my original plan was to buy an instinct and leave it on Roam mode wheather i am at home or not... and i think i would use more than %50 of roaming because i use my phone more when i am at home than when im out.. maybe sprint isnt for me. =/

definately wont work with an instinct because there is no roam only option.

I have a ? if you stay in roam for more than 50% of your mins they terminate your contract correct. If a person is trying to get out a contract and does not want to pay ETF can they pull off this roaming game to get the company to terminate your contract? Because if a phone company is terminating your contract then they cant force you into paying these fees correct? Then we can move on to which ever company we were going to.

theres still fees. its in the contract and they warn you two times before the cancel it. ofcourse theres a fee.

Actually if they cancel you because of roaming they will waive the ETF, however before you try to do that scam, becareful as it is a dangerous game and you very well could end up paying more charges in Roaming and Minute overages than you would have just to cancel.

Don't switch. If you have no Sprint signal in your home, it's pointless.

As much as I love my phones and service, no service is no service.

Not to mention the fact that you should never mess up a good thing that works for you.

If Sprint ever does get service in your area, or you move, we'd be glad to have you aboard! 🙂

Even if Sprint didn't have the strict roaming too much policy that they do, it would still be pointless to do this unless you were a light user or got an unlimited plan.

Another thing you could think about if it ever launches is Sprint's Airave device. during the test launch it was $15 a month and the device was free; it just hooks into your high speed internet and gives you unlimited calling from home and a 5000 square foot coverage area. It should launch here soon hopefully with EVDO data support this time around.

It's lack of availability, as of now, was why I didn't mention it either.
