Coverage in Portland Oregon . . . ? Better or Worse than VZW?

My wife and I are Realtors in Portland Oregon, top notch coverage for us is an absolute MUST.

I had Sprint YEARS ago when I was traveling the country a lot, at that time they were the best for traveling as you could always rely on getting good signal at airports and in large cities. But in semi-rural and even some residential areas, forget about it . . . no signal.

Now being firmly planted in Portland Oregon we've found in the last few years that VZW has the best coverage, but their pricing is starting to wear on our nerves. We're looking at the all you can eat voice, data & text plans. VZW = $150/month each. Sprint is $100/month each...Quick $100/month savings but the question is COVERAGE.

I have zero interest in the "VZW sucks!...

cheaping out and going to sprint will cost you dearly! you already have to best coverage, lets say somehow somehow someone magically convinces you to test drive sprint, and they meet all your expectations, in the long run you'll be sry you left verizon. The first time you have to go into on of their poorly ran ghetto stores, or God forbid call customer care. Thousands of users are leaving sprint everyday, ready to jet to verizon or att. You already have the best service, noone in there right mind would consider giving up Verizon...for sub par service with sprint. Have ...

I think Cellanator should be the next to be banned from here. His posts are not informative at all, and are just the same thing every day. So you hate Sprint, good for you. If you like overpaying for Verizon service good for you. You also like waiting for two more hours every night for free calls. Good for you. I am happy you like it. Go do it and get off of here. Anybody with me here?

what you sprint cheerleaders fail to understand is that he is free to express his opinions. i have been to a sprint store, it can be an awful experience, hes just warning him to the fact that it is not like walking into a verizon store.

Wow, someone at Sprint must have really pissed you off along time ago.

I know that we're all allowed to have our opinion and I'm not going to tell you that you can't say what you want. But if we're going to put our opinions out there, then here we go.

I have verizon and i was an awful experience. I was always treated poorly by the store employees and the customer care reps that i talked to. They talked down to my like i was some kind of moron. I had to have my phone replaced 5 times before they would admit that the model was crap. I had a manager actually come out and tell me that i don't know how to work my phone. I had to show him on his sales floor that what it was doing. His reaction; Oh, OK. I had my contract renewed wit...

you will have to make up your mind about whether or not price or reliability is your first priority. Unfortunately sometimes you can't have both.

Ok, i pulled up the coverage map from sprint.com and verizonwireless.com. The verizon map shows better coverage in portland than the sprint map. But, never go by a coverage map, they are not as accurate as we would hope.

Don't go by anyone here unless they actually live in portland now and have had both sprint and verizon recently. According to the coverage maps, verizon has better coverage there. But i have never been to portland before and i don't know anyone there, so ask around and see what your friends, family and business associates have to say.

As a realtor, if you choose Sprint, it would definately be a benefit if you go with a phone that has the IR (Infrared) capability. If you're a member of the National Association of Realtors, you can also sign up for the GE Supra e-Key capability. With the IR feature, you can actually use the device to open lockboxes using your device itself, rather than a key. Very convenient....

The coverage locators are not real helpful most of the time. I know they are detailed down to a home address, but for what I need to know it's not really realistic to go punching in dozens and dozens of addresses that are representative of the areas I frequent, hence I was looking for a real world opinion from someone that has used both services recently and is like me all over this area all the time.

As for the Supra eKey, already using it on my verizon phone, but thanks!

My advice would be to get a temp number from Sprint and try it out for 30 days. Surprised no one suggested that. If you don't like it return the equipment and continue with Verizon. If you do like it then you can port your Verizon numbers over. It is best for you to test the service as one persons thought of acceptable may vary from your acceptable level. You have to use what works for you and the only real way to find that out is first hand experience. With all the upgrades to the network in the last year unless that person is currently with them they can't say for sure.

CS use to be a big problem but it has gotten much better. Every time that I have called I have gotten someone in Colorado or Idaho. Billing well I won't say fo...
