No Discount on Treo 650 at the Sprint Store

I went in to the Sprint store in Wichita, KS today to look at the Treo 650. I wanted the phone mainly because I would like the Bluetooth capability for my car. The price posted was $599 with a $150 rebate if you signed-up for a 2 year contract.

I presently do not have any commitment to Sprint and I purchased my last phone used from a friend 6 months ago, as my previous one broke and I didn't have insurance - which I do now. (Treo 600 which has been a great phone).

As I was getting ready to purchase the phone the sales rep checked my account and told me I was not eligible for any discount or rebate because I had not had my used Treo for 18 months! I was perplexed; I explained I had no commitment to Sprint and that if I was willing t...

call into retention. if you have had that line active for 18 months there is a coad you can out on to make sure you get the rebate. but i would recoment the new F&F over the 2000 it is cheeper with three phones..... unless you have free vision

also if it has been over a year since your last new phone you are eligable for a 75$ rebate.

Thanks for the info. I do have free vision, so I'd like to keep the same plan.

The Sprint store told me it didn't matter where I got my last phone. Even if I bought it used, if I didn't have it for 18 months I would not be eligible for the rebate - they weren't even interested in keeping me for another 2 years. It seems that that is nonsense, if I haven't taken advantage of a rebate for 18 months, then I should be able to have the rebate, just like any other 18 month customer.

here is the really really short short shhoooorrttt story on sprint and their customer service. customer reps are not trained to keep customers. if customers become irrate it doesnt matter. as long as the rep was not saying the wrong thing. if you became irrate then pretty much up yours buddy.

as for the contract. it is incorrect to say companies dont make money. they make alot of money and they just say that. actually its only the first shippment that they calculate it to be on the loss. here is how they look at it. pretend these are the numbers. R and D, license, overhead, etc. is about $20,000,000.00 then making them is about 100.00 bucks a unit (treo 650). then assume you can only make about 50,000 units for the first year. so the fir...

714, your just as bad as Stevelvl. Please say something very very vulgar so PhoneScoop blocks you permanently. Or just write in proper english and know what you're talking about before you respond. Know it alls/"Through the eyes of 714 types" like yourself make me sick.

You're looking way too far into it anyways. No company gets their equipment "pennies on the dollar". Compare Retail Sales Price with the actual manufacturers website. Just enough margin to cover S&H, advertising, etc etc etc.

Your entire response is a pile of slop; please don't visit this site any more. Thanks.

i didnt know i was in english class? are you a teacher?

so your saying that they dont make any profit as the rep says? that they are just doing this for our benefit only. how sweet of them.

i believe you shouldnt visit any site anymore. oh sorry you might be a bit lonely so you need to be on here huh? well its ok i forgive you.

well i know a bit more then you think dont be saying a bunch of slop if you plan to slop yourself.

oh! i dont care if i am type like a slop. if you plan on paying me a 7 digit income to write an award winning journal let me know and ill do it your way. till then i dont really care! 😛

Its funny that you only briefly touched on the true meaning of my repsonse, and the other 90% went to defending your stupidity with more stupidity.

No wireless SERVICE provider is in the game to make profits on the phone, but on service. We as service providers take a loss on the phone itself 95% of the time. The other 5% is to those that dont qualify for another discount (AKA our loss) bc they recently recieved a discount on another phone (AKA another loss to us).

And no I dont plan on hiring you with a 7 digit income. You will never be hired with a salary like that with the pace you going at.

third party sellers get a huge commission? and 7 figures is a lot of money? i made 7 figures in hs flipping burgers at micky ds $11,002.00 that is a 7 figure income. 50k a year thought that is good and what a good sprint rep can make.

If every phone sprint sold was for the full price, then yes, they would make a profit. But seeing as how nobody thinks they should ever pay full price for a phone then we probably don't make any profit from phone sales especially when we give so many away for free. The profit comes when they sign up for service for 2 years and pay each month. Over a period of time it adds up to cover the loss of the phone rebate. Yes sprint makes money, thats why we are still here. But for you people that think we are going to bend over backwards to "keep you", you are crazy. To the person who started this thread: You may be a loyal sprint customer, but that doesnt' mean you are not required to follow the rules. I am sure sprint appreciates your bus...

You seem to have a bad attitude toward our (Sprint) customers. I think maybe you need to reevaluate who actually pays your paycheck every month and then be thankful to those people. It is employees like you that give Sprint a bad name and then I am stuck cleaning up the mess you made because somebody pissed you off and you want to take it out on everybody. I believe that Sprint is the best company around and if it wasn't for jerkoffs like yourself I think there would be alot more people that feel the way I do!

P.S. I think you need a little AA (Attitude Adjustment)

This is where i will post my 2 cents worth.

As a rep I see customers almost daily who have had their phones anywhere from 3 months to 24 months and want an upgrade rebate NOW. It is true the money is made throught the plans over the long term, so sprint cannot finance giving you another rebate every 3 months. They picked a cut off of 18 months, deal with it.

Insurance claims fall into a very similar group. people come in with a demolished phone, and say "I pay for insurance and I want a new phone for free right now." Most of these get mad when we tell them they have to call lock/line and it will be mailed to them.

Last comment, as far as cost, yea we do sometimes lose money, most of the time we come out at $0.00 profit and $0.0...

I seem to have a bad attitude toward customers who are selfish, disrespectful, and have that same bad attitude. I don't care who pays my paycheck, just cause "they are paying me" doesn't mean I have to sit there and kiss their a$$. If you are going to come in griping at me about how your phones broke or your bill is high when it's your own fault, I'm going to kindly let you know I can't do anything for you, if you are going to get rude to me about it, then I'm going to get rude back. The nice customers don't get treated that way. I don't take my anger out on everyone, just the idiots in front of me and the ones who type on the forums. You don't clean anything up, you are business, you go to them, they don't come to you. Schlup I think y...

because you switched "ESN" numbers the computer is picking up when you activated your friends phone on your account. Explain your situation to the cust serv dept and they may over ride the comp and put the code in for a 150 mail in rebate. Let them know the situation. i'm sure they will take care of you. i have dealt with this before and Cust. serv. did input the code. As far as that rep is concerned maybe he had a bad day.

the way the 18 months works it goes from the last time you receaved a new phone. this requires work on the reps part because he may have to do some reserch to see when that was. your best bet is to go back to the store and ask for andrew (dark hair and glasses looks like the guy from the verizon comercial you will know exactly wha ti mean when you see him) if he still works there i am not sure. he is a good guy i used toi work with him he will take car of you.
