well the time has come for customers to get what they want once again. now we will be able to activate NON sprint phones on our network. (verizon, alltell) not sure when we will start doing this but now you guys can bring your phones over. i wonder how that will work considering that verizon has different software on their phones đ will it just be a phone to use voice? cause i wouldnt think v-cast and stuff like that would work.
...
I'd assume it'd be voice-only too. Maybe text? Not sure if there are differences there.

I am kind of wondering how this is going to work too, as the suit cant force a carrier to change all practices to account for this. So the court can not force Sprint to get softwear for all phones on all carriers. Bringing a VZW phone to sprint is going to mean sprint can provide a home SID to the phone, but wont have a way to change the PRL so the phone is going to use the VZW PRL when off of the home SID and thus roam even when sprint towers are there. If a customer that travels alot does this they are going to end up getting disconnected for excessive roaming. Which would probably lead to another stupid lawsuit where the court will come up with some other stupid requirement that will cause even more problems.

my hope is maybe sprint will figure out how to wirelessly reprogram phones.
here's to hoping.

Voice only should work, IF this happens. Alltel and VZW have different platforms. J2ME vs. BREW equals data not working properly.
...
thats what i was thinking, yet another reason a customer to get mad at US.
"i bought this phone from VZW and its the env, why isnt my internet working, etc. What are you going to do about it? I want a credit!"

im confused by this proposition. EVEN if this goes through 100%, SPRINT phones would be unlocked after termination of contract and final bill payment. thats fantastic right? ok. but that doesnt mean verizon or alltel will ALLOW the unlocked phones to work with their network, and that being said, that would also mean that in order to use the phones from verizon and alltel on sprint, they must be unlocked BY verizon and alltel ...correct? so in this situation (if im correct) that would mean verizon AND alltel would both HAVE to follow sprint with this idea of unlocking devices in order for this proposition to work effectivley...right? so by my logic, i will assume the other carriers will NOT follow, which will render sprints unlocking idea as...

Thanks for sharing Christofc7. This "unlocking" bit with Sprint, is non-sense to me. Sprint may be forced to unlock a phone, and other carriers may not accept, due to platform, ESN's, etc.
I believe that this is going to be the beginning of my manufacture theory. In the near future, I believe we'll see manufactures such as Samsung, and Moto selling their selection of phones to any carrier. I've already seen a Moto vending machine at the airport, that allows you to pick your CDMA or GSM carrier.
GUess we'll see.

where did you see that?

It would be nice to have an Alltel phone on Verizon so you wouldn't have to deal with their crappy UI but a Verizon or Alltel phone on Sprint is going to be voice only, maybe text so there is no point. Everyone mentioned the data platforms are different which is correct so no web.
Verizon phones are limited in what they can do feature wise due to them locking down a lot of options but are not locked to the carrier. The lock code is 000000 on every VZW phone so it can be programmed over the air. Maybe we will see this from Sprint in the future.
