WASHINGTON - Shares of Sprint Corp. and Nextel Communications Inc. rose Thursday after The Wall Street Journal reported rising Wall Street speculation that the two companies could merge.
While such a combination would offer some benefits, especially for Nextel, it would face several tough hurdles involving management and control between equally matched partners, analysts said.

the only way that this merger happens, in my opinion, if nextel's top 3 execs (ceo,cfo,cto) all stays with the new combined company. they have a better track record and i belive that they are stronger and more reliable then sprint's mgmt.

Maybe that's why VZW was so crabby about the FCC allowing the spectrum swap for Nextel. The team would make an awesome company IF they could pull it off. Nextel owns qchat, and they now have an abundance of 1900mhz spectrum. And Sprint has .... well Sprint has alot of spectrum, too. π But I still get good vibes from the idea.
