if you have not personally seen one, its not coming. and maybe even if you have.

this is a HUGE deal. if this ban is not lifted, all CDMA carriers are screwed.

Don't count of this lasting long. Verizon's well paid goon squad will end it somehow.

Anything in the US or cleared for import will still happen. Anything due for June / July / August release. These phones are either made or ordered. Anything beyond that though...

I don't think this will last long personally. The cellular industry in the US is gaining muscle and this will affect not only Sprint but Verizon and at&t as well. Not much can bring these 3 parties together besides this... I'd look for there to be some agreement soon. I'd also bet it means price increases.

I hope Broadcom crucifies Qualcomm for the patent infringement.

Atleast, they will finally be on the back end of screwing another company. "What goes around comes around, Finally"

i think you guys are missing the point.

we, as consumers, are going to be SCREWED when it comes to phone selection if this ban isnt lifted.

as if it isnt bad enough already compared to europe/asia.

The problem is that Nokia and Broadcom do not want to negotiate in good faith so they ask for high royalty rates, which Qualcomm will not pay for. I do not blame them. Qualcomm wants them to pay the same rates for what Q is leasing to them, but they want to pay lower. Things cannot be both ways.

If this continues it will not hurt them, it will hurt consumers.

I highly dislike Broadcom and Nokia for this. Qualcomm I always like and will always.

Seems that the 3G part of this ban is bothering ATT more than it is Verizon and Sprint. ATT is trying to get the ban delayed.

I'm hoping that Nokia and Broadcom can get on the ball and produce CDMA chips themselves so that we can have new phone outside of the Qualcomm blockade. Another USA manufacturer wouldn't hurt either.

This ban will affect the entire cellphone industry, not just the CDMA.

Afraid I'm not following what is going on...

Who banned who, why, and what does that mean for CDMA carriers?

Qualcomm was found guilty of violating that patent that has to do with power consumption when your phone is outside of the calling area, which is owned by Broadcom. Broadcom went to the ITC to ask them to issue a ban or an injunction against Qualcomm. Qualcomm gave their testimony, Broadcom did too, and ITC ruled that any 3G phone that has EV-DO and HSPA could not come inside this country after June 7.

ITC= International Trade Commission

Any other information that you need let me know.

Oops. I forgot to mention a key fact. Not just all 3G phones, rather than just 3G phones use Qualcomm chips.
