third-party charges
Lady comes into our store to prepared for a switch to VZ(heh heh). She has Sprint(sorry). So do I, so I know how wonderful the CS dep. is. She obtained a new line in '06, new number, etc. and I will admit that she is not the most observant individual.
The number she had received had a joke a day feature from a third-party company on it: the charge was .99 a DAY. She has teenagers, so she was just thinking that the extra was voice overages. She checked recently, and found the true problem; the package. say "i need this number blocked for all short codes in the PMG"
you dont need to know what that means, just say it, and AFTER the current bill cycle, it will stop.

On Sprint you can block all premium messages but that only fixes the new ones. Old ones will still charge.

yep, if you ported the number to VZW, it will still be attached to that number, not the carrier!
she had a one-time occurrence, won't happen again.
she texted the correct number back with a 'stop' command, and they replied affirmative.

here is a brief explanation of why i am right, but in order to understand it, you must have had at least basic tech support training for sprint.
basically, sprint's billing system for messaging is called the Bulk Messaging Gateway(BMG). this is the system that keeps track of inbound and outbound sms, or text messages. it counts them, and reports the number to the billing system.
