Phone Insurance!

Is it true that the Sprint phone insurance deductibles are now going to be $50 instead of $35 or is that just a rumor. Personally I think we should pay nothing if we pay for insurance every month but someone else might have another opinion!

That's how insurance works. You pay a monthly premium and then, when you have need of what the insurance provides, you pay a deductible. That deductible is a monetary fraction of what the situation would otherwise require.

And yes, the deductible is going up as of October 1st. This is partly because of all the fraud going on (i.e. people breaking their Sanyo 8100s in hopes of getting an 8200 for cheap.) It is also because the coverage is improving to include an extended warranty program. What we currently refer to as the Equipment Replacement Program is now going to be referred to as Total Equipment Protection.

Oh, and the premium is going up to $5 in January.

For the Enhanced Warranty Protection, which covers mechanical problems and wear & tear during and after the manufacturer's warranty, there is only a $10 processing fee. For the dumb things people do to phones (losing them, running them over, dropping them in the toilet) the deductible is going up to $50.

You can get the enhanced warranty for $2 and the insurance (for the dumb things) for $4 per month (same as now) or both for $5. Current insurance customers automatically get both.

Yes the Price per month will increase to $5 a month, with a $50 deductable for insurance claims, and a $10 for Warranty replacements.

And Personally I think you thought of not paying a deductable is retarded. Try telling your Car Insurance Company you are not going to pay thier deductible when you get in a wreck.... Works the same way with ALL insurance except for Life Insurance.

You pay $5 a Month to HAVE the coverage, then a deductable to get it replaced... The replacement phones are free buddy.

i don't think you should have to pay any thing for a new phone. i think i should be able to get a 500$ phone every 2 months for free even though i only pay 30$ a month. t-mob is giveing away free phones. besides they only cost 2$ to make any ways. 🙄

i hope no one actually takes this post seriously!

on a seriouse note, im dissapointed in how crapy the insurance is getting, its 3rd party now. they dont tell you what your getting, you dont have the option to pay more to upgrade to a better phone. they want your old one EVEN IF you had to pay FULL PRICE for it. blah, everytime im in the store i tell them im dissapointed in that fact. hopefully they will change back.

Dude! What are you talking about?? 3rd Party?? Sprint has always done their insurance replacements through Lock/Line.

Also being that Lock/Line does not have a phone inventory of thier own like Asurion, Your replacement phone is dependent on what phones Sprint PCS has in inventory, thats why Lock/Line does not know what model your replacement will be.

Pay more to upgrade to a better phone?? Does you car insurance company offer to let you pay more to upgrade to a better car?? I don't think so! The cell phone insurance is not a upgrade program, it is there to put you back into the same place you were at BEFORE you phone was lost, stolen, or damaged.

Once you file an insurance claim on a cell phone, that cell phone becomes the propert...

Well said. I hope this place doesn't become a insurance-fraud cesspool, the way the 3Gupload.com Sprint board once did.

I dunno. My buddy had his car broken into and they stole his deck. He paid the difference to get the higher end deck with his car insurance so i guess the answer to that question is...yes.

Not really, All Car insurance does is basically give you money for the value of item that was stolen or damaged. They don't actually supply you with a car.

if you want an ugraded phone, the best thing to do is just sell the replacement on Ebay, and use that money towards an upgraded model.

FYI, lock\line has handled Sprint's insurance program for over 7 years.

This insurance is an indemnity program, which means it takes you back to where you were when the loss occurred, not to whatever upgrade you want. If you want an upgrade, check the New For You program.

They don't predict what will be available when the order is fulfilled, so they won't promise any specific model.

If the insurance pays for the replacement, they have the right of salvage. If you wreck your car and the insurance company says it is totalled, they get the title to the old one and get the salvage value of it.

By the way, those procedures are pretty much the same no matter what carrier you have so switching won't help.

What difference does it make if they want your old phone, 9 times out of 10, it has water damage anywayz, what can you do with a broken phone, and if you can do anything with it, why are you filing a claim. And some of the responsibility to know the terms of the insurance lay on the subscriber. They love to say "they didn't tell me that when I bought the phone" But they were probably so mesmerized by the shiny new toy, that they didn't bother to ask for a pamphlet or some materials concerning the insurance. And as far as the upgrading, are you kidding me?! The carriers would go nuts! Why let you throw your phone against a wall so you can get an upgrade thru your insurance company and not give the money to the carrier, and how would the...

Ok Boca,
Lockline is the private insurance provider for over 15 wireless companies. Sprint is not charging you $4, its Lockline. Just like with ALL insurances, there is a deductible and a monthly premium. Personally, if you dont have a PDA, treat your phone right and you wont need ERP.

What you pay every month (and I get so tired of explaining this to subscribers) is your premium...when you file a claim, that is your deductible. Don't you have car insurance, health insurance? There is a deductible associated with almost every type of insurance. Geez! And now, with the price of phones at $1000, do you think that you should get a replacement phone for free?

While I'm here i will go on and post this. If you actually read through the Insurance paperwork you can get most of your answers. Either in the paper copy they gave you or the PDF that is on www.sprintpcs.com. It is very informative, and good for a laugh. Especially the "things not covered" section.

Quite a lot of the people complaining about having to pay a deductable are the same ones that wanted a TREO 600 free because they were switching from VZW and the store was out of Nokia 3588s.

If you work in retail you know the customers try to rip off the store more than the store trys to overcharge.

I have made 9 insurance claims over the last 5 years. It works good for me. I also have a box of useless phones, because mine wer...
