About a year and half ago, Motorola announced a new operating system for their phones. Yet every time since then that they've announced a new phone, it still runs pretty much the same OS they've used since the T720. Sure they've updated it to make it more user friendly or add new features - and we've covered the most recent updates - but it's still basically the same OS.

But now one phone is different. The ROKR E2 - which has launched in Asia but not the U.S. - is running an early version of the new operating system. We finally got our hands on it to give you a taste of what's coming. We don't know when a phone with this OS is coming here, but Motorola swears they're serious about launching it beyond Asian shores.

A special thanks to Trolltech who managed to snag this ROKR for us from China Mobile. Trolltech is specialist in mobile Linux, and their Qtopia development environment was used by Motorola to create the interface and applications for this new OS.
