Why mess with Verizon? They have spectrum and they using it to spread their network out all over the country. They have more TRUE LTE (not bogus HSPA or 3.5G or WiMax) Coverage than all the other carriers combined and have plans to cover their ENTIRE nationwide 3G footprint by the end of 2013 with 4G LTE. By the end of 2013 AT&T will likely cover 50 major metropolitan cites and have a lot of excuses about their crappy data network, Sprint maybe 20 because they are broke because of the IPhone and T-Mobile will be just starting to think about phasing out EDGE by 2021, lol. They aren't just hoarding spectrum it like the lowlife's at AT&T. Isn't this what President Obama asked for, spreading high-speed internet access across the ENTIRE count...

You know what's MORE important than deploying a high speed, nationwide wireless network? I'll tell you:

Making sure there are enough COMPARABLE competitors to ensure that the free market practice of competitive pricing continues to function.

Any single firm controlling more than 30% of the actively deployed, in-use spectrum in any market is a bad thing.

This grab would put Verizon way over 30% in some key markets.

That must not be allowed to happen. Carriers should have to fight for customers through innovative pricing and exceptional service, not because all the airwaves have been soaked up by two or three firms and consumers have to choose the "prettiest pig" out of the litter.

Exactly. The spin machine is already in motion. The Alltel merger should not have been allowed and Verizon's spectrum grab is over. They and AT&T must be plainly told that it is over.

Yes they are. Verizon does not need AWS spectrum for their LTE roll out. Just as AT&T did not. This is an excuse to leverage T-Mobile out of LTE or at least make it as difficult as possible to graduate to LTE. They have enough spectrum already.
