😢 we're all gonna miss you. One of the best phones I ever owned was the vx4000. Even though you haven't made anything that good ever since my heart goes out to you

The "VX" is an LG designation but Audiovox did make a 4000 series phone. The 4000 (4000, 4500)and 9000 (9000, 9100, 9155, 9500, 9900) series were probably its best line. Can't say I was impressed with anything off the 8000 line. While certainly not my first choice in cell phone, I am interested to see what the new company can produce.

Yeah, the 9100, 9155, etc series were basically like bricks, you could play soccer with those things and it wouldn't faze them.

It'd be nice if we could get an anniversary of tried, tested and true favorites like this line, and the Moto Startacs that were so awesome before Motorola began having 3247720732187324 software problems on virtually every phone they released.

There are still phones being released...

Shalam continued, "The net proceeds from today's transaction will give Audiovox Corporation substantial capital, which in turn will place us in a strong position to further enhance the Audiovox brand and expand our presence, both in the U.S. and in Europe. We are excited about the next phase in our corporate evolution and look forward to updating our shareholders on our plans for the future as they materialize."

The company is just owned by someone else. Just like AT&T Wireless, they're still in business with a new owner.

Right.

Actually, they're even more of a real company than AT&T Wireless. AT&T Wireless will eventually be fully absorbed by Cingular. I don't think that is the case here.

This is still the same company they were before, just with a different name and corporate owner. They were a subsidiary of Audiovox; now they are a subsidiary of UTStarcom.

The difference, and reason for the transaction, is that Audiovox didn't actually make phones. UTStarcom does. ACC was always at a disadvantage before, because they were going after the same business as Nokia, etc., but had to rely on other companies to actually make the phones.

Now they will be doing what they have always done, except they will have their own line of phones, designed and manu...
