AT&T May Charge App Makers for Consumer Data Use

Put away the pitchforks.
This is just an option they may offer that allows app developers to pay the way for their customers. Key word: option. It's a way to allow someone like Netflix, for example, to get more people to use their app by assuming the data costs. But they don't have to if they don't want to. People are really going to act like having this choice is worse than not having this choice, when the absolute worst case scenario for consumers is that no developers use it and everything stays the way it is?
You can crow about how AT&T (and Verizon and T-Mobile for that matter) should just bring back unlimited data, but you would be served just as well by spending that time bashing your head against a brick. It's not happening.

Agreed.
I've always wondered how carriers would satisfy customer desire to use apps that utilize massive data for streaming and downloading. With things like cloud storage, streaming is more ideal for lots of people and watching movies or other video content is a must for users of YouTube, Netflix, Comcast On Demand apps and other apps like that.
People talk about ATT using the spectrum they have, then what? That will only be a very temporary fix. Increasing network, only means more people will use use and abuse it. There has to be a better solution that is more cost efficient and causes less stress on the carrier's network. This isn't just an ATT issue. Just happens that ATT is the only one voicing their concerns.

I wish they would SHUT UP already & stop screwing with their customers over data. What is with all the people always jumping to their defense and bashing other customers. I didn't realize AT&T's Board of Directors spend so much time on Phonescoop, lol. Maybe we shouldn't build another mile of roads or rails in this country. I mean...people will just use and abuse them & that would be awful. Maybe no airline should ever add flights or electric or gas company boost production because people would just use it. Garbage collection companies shouldn't add equipment, employees and landfill space because people will just throw more things away. INSANE? They are a business!! Improving and expanding their network IS JUST WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO AS...

Well, I'm not a defender of ATT, just looking at it from a different point. I do agree that ATT should build out their network, using the spectrum they have. I'm not going to sit here and pretend to know everything about this but, what I do know is, spectrum is not an unlimited resource. My point to the the by is, once the carriers build out their networks and the spectrum once again becomes an issue, whether in the near distant future, what then? The FCC controls how much spectrum any entity can have and with the growing need to have wireless everything, I see it becoming an issue. Maybe, things aren't as bleak as I think they are but, carriers unwillingness to continue unlimited data is more than just, "a making money issue".
Besides, t...
