AT&T May Charge App Makers for Consumer Data Use
This is just a terrible idea
And, to push this AT&T is pointing to the fact that data usage is too much for them to handle, which is why they don't offer unlimited usage plans. Yet, they sit on soooo much spectrum.
How about using your spectrum to expand and support your network and stop overselling it. They are attempting to use the same model gyms do when they oversell membership when clearly it isn't working. Don't shift the burden onto developers, invest in your own networks and provide the service you promised your customers.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of laziness and deficit-spending, I will fear no evil, for the government is with me. It prepareth an economic Utopia for me, by appropriating the earnings of my own grandchildren. It filleth my head with false security; My inefficiency runneth over. Surely the government should care for me all the days of my life, And I shall dwell in a fool’s house forever.

What a bunch of bunk! Typical anti government straw man illogic wrapped in a Chr...

This country does not work on direct 'public opinion' or direct vote. This country was organized as a Republic.
We don't even directly elect our President.
We elect representatives who govern for us.
So, no, WE are not the government.
If you want to test that, pass a bill and enforce it on your own. See how far it gets you.
The FCC is a group of 'chairmen' who are selected by the sitting President, confirmed by congress and are supposed to uphold the pricipals and carry out the duties outlined in the act of congress that created the FCC.
Do they have any reason to interfere with how ATT charges it's customers for data?
No, as ATT does not hold any monopoly.
If they do, then they will be ...

Tell me, exactly which of the FCC commissioners did you vote for? Tell me again, when we the people decide to employ an unelected, non-accountable component of the Federal government to curtail YOUR business practices simply because we don't like what you're doing, to whom will you complain?
Your writing smacks of Midwestern pragmatism. Enjoy four more years of the current regime; you deserve it.
Yeah....every time a company does anything you don't like, run to the nanny state to fix it...
Running to Mommy government every time you encounter something you don't like is the adult's version of a kid yelling 'I'm going to tell mom!'
You can call it a 'straw man' if you like, but most people use the term 'satire'....whatever floats your boat my friend! What squares your root, whatever integrates your differential!

This is something that developers WANT and are interested in....

I'm a developer and I definitely don't want this. This is just a bad idea.
The time constraint is actually the reason I'm working on a WP7 app first, even though I don't own a WP7 device for personal use.
Once I get free time I do want to explore Objective-C (iOS), and yes Android as well (Java). The thing is, I already mentioned I know Java... just not the Android SDK specifically. Which is the same reason I didn't mention Blackberry, because it is also Java. Though, I'll probably wait until Blackberry 10 is nearing before jumping into that ship, even though I own a Blackberry device.
I'd say I'm about 15% done with my application ...

However, I am sure ATT will price this out of being reasonable. That's just what they do.
Of course ATT wants customers to pay for data use.
Don't all the carriers?
What they are saying, which I think you missed, is, apps will come without data access associated with your data plan and if you accept and use the app you will be buying data from the app seller/supplier.
That's my take on it.
Nobody will use apps that have 'extra' data charges.
It's fools gold.
However, I know facts do not deter those that are anti-AT&T. They will post slams without any compunction.
What I cannot understand is people expecting to watch movies 24 hrs per day 365 days a year (on a cell phone 🙄 ) and not be charged for it.
ITS DATA... IT SHOULD BE FREE...
Idiotic.
-these are the type of people who i would almost always want to avoid since no amount of explanation and reasoning would work with them.
