They're spending enough already trying to fix themselves. Acquiring T-Mo would be a disaster and besides, two losers don't make a winner. Maybe Sprint can acquire U.S. Cellular. They're gonna be gobbled up soon anyway. If I were Sprint I'd get it before Verizon does. Just saying.

Verizon is tooo big for the government to allow then to buy US Cellular.

We said the same thing before they acquired Alltel. In fact, when Verizon was created back in 2000 they agreed in writing to keep their hands off Alltel foe 10 years. How did that work out?

Your exactly right! Think about it. They have been working out this deal with Metro for months. Well two months ago the ATT-TMO fell apart because of the government so I would bet Sprint has been talking with DT since and worked out a deal with them for TMO. If they get TMO with their nationwide network, customer base of 35 million and all their spectrum, why would they want regional micro-carrier Metro anymore? I bet we hear about a merger of T-Mobile and Sprint within the next few months. Sprint needs TMO's customer base and spectrum so they can have an economy of scale to compete with ATT and VZW.

Better fit.

Better fit? Everyone is transitioning to LTE anyway so the CDMA to CDMA thing is not really that important. 6 million customers in just a few markets or 35 million spread out across the nation. Would put Sprint around 85 to 90 million customers. Still a little shy of Verizon & AT&T but very close. Also would add to their spectrum holdings big-time.

6 million? Metro has 9.2 million customers as of the 4th qtr of. 2011

They probably give them 2/3rds of the 9 million because they're NOT in contract, and use metro because they didn't have the credit to use sprint, tmo, vzw, or att! 🤣

That's very interesting you have prejudged a large number of people. I actually switched my small business to Metro because of the true caller ID that shows the name of the registered owner as well as the number calling, even when they are not in the phone's phonebook. Try doing that on AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, or Sprint, regardless of credit

Speaking of which, I know a realtor that has a great property that is listed at 500,000. Since you have good credit, you might rather pay 999,000. You should give them a call.

Sprint will not attempt to acquire T-Mobile. T-Mobile has an entirely different infrastructure, and Sprint already knows what a disaster running multiple incompatible networks is.

Both MetroPCS and US Cellular are better fits, because they currently have CDMA infrastructures and are migrating to LTE (something that is already in Sprint's roadmap). Both carriers are probably roaming partners with Sprint now, making a migration even easier.

at&t didn't have any trouble integrating the old divested Alltel markets into its network despite incompatible technology.....

Some of Alltel's network was GSM. Besides, Sprint is in the process of coverting iDEN over to CDMA as we speak.

Some was GSM, but most of it was CDMA.....and the thing that the old Alltel customers who chose to stick around for the at&t conversion loved most about it was that since their old Alltel phones would no longer work, every Alltel customer got a free at&t phone of equal or lesser value....

I currently live in one of the old divested Alltel markets which is now at&t and I know several people for whom the 'free at&t phone' was a Godsend...their current phone was on its last legs and they weren't eligible for an upgrade...and they got a free at&t phone without extending their contract....it was great, new phone for $0 and no contract.... 🤤

T-Mobile is bigger and the transition would be more involved and something of a nightmare.... b...

thats neat .. but yeah sprint doesn't have the money to get TMO .. ATT did but that ship has long gone sunk by now .. i wouldn't be surprise that they try selling themselfs now .. from what i understand they aren't even going to be on top of iphone 5 launch thats coming up ... 🤣

not enough money i guess

That's my two cents. Sprint will figure out anyway possible to get T-Mobile. Give DT a 30-40% stake in the merged company and borrow every last dime they can to give to them. I don't think DT is interested in the U.S. anymore and they want out of T-Mobile USA.

But it would be different if T-Mobile was actually, you know, profitable and stuff...

The problem is that DT, while one of the biggest corporations in the world with billions of dollars to spend, never really fully invested in T-Mobile to make it equal to the other networks....and their extreme low prices and constant giveaways made it difficult for T-Mobile to make enough of a profit to become self sustaining...

The best thing might be for T-Mobile to simply go through Chapter 11 and then all the other carriers would be able to bid on their assets.....dividing up T-Mobile between the other carriers (no reason smaller carriers like US Celluar or Metro PCS couldn't get some of it) is probably the fairest outcome...

No, I'm thinking of Sprint....

I get that like a lot of people here you despise at&t and you probably want them to go bankrupt, because after all I know that hating at&t is like hating RIM and loving Apple...it's hip and trendy and makes you feel like one of the 'cool kids'....(as if techno geeks like the people who populate this forum could ever be 'cool' but whatever)...

That's normal, I understand that that's the way it rolls in tech forums and I'm okay being 'the most uncool of all the uncool kids'...

But....what I do object to is the lack of wittiness....if you're going to bash at&t at least be clever...just saying 'no you're thinking of at&t' whenever I criticize Sprint is just.....lame...

Come on man...you can do better t...

Difference, AT&T maybe selfish and greedy, they know how to merge different systems into a viable mobile network. On the other hand, I don't think Sprint has the ability to take a potato chip out of a bag.

My thought is that if they wanted U.S. Cellular, they would have gone after them and not MetroPCS. U.S. Cellular, MetroPCS and Cricket will eventually get gobbled up. I always kind of hoped the three would merge to form a 5th nationwide carrier for us to choose from but that's incredibly doubtful.

A US Cellular and Metro PCS merger would be a good deal, they are both profitable companies with a small footprint that doens't cover the entire country, but combined they might be able to compete with the big boys.....
