If it is just a new set of algorythms, wouldn't that just be a simple software update ?

I would think so, but they're talking about antenna modifications, also. Makes no sense, but will take longer to implement on a large scale.

That is true. Still, this sounds like it would be relatively inexpensive as compared to constructing brand new base stations. Hopefully T-Mobile and at&t implement all of these new HSPA+ technologies, and soon.
