how to you go about judging if a service provider sucks??? Is it there churn rate ? which both att@Cingular had the worst of. Everyone knows some service providers work better then others in different places..but its funny you say a company sucks when the companies that are now merged were ranked last in customer retention. Also interesting that Sprint was 3rd as of last qt. ATT lost so many customers their net add was - . Also on the topic of numbers..if the numbers would continue as they are at this point..cingular had only 1.4 million more customers and would of been passes next year. SO what happens..cingular buys a company that was falling apart. So for people that think because the two companies merge that things are goin to be good..n...

Cingular is still reporting an Excellent growth rate though so I honestly dont think that verizon will pass by them that quickly. And the reason sprint sucks is:
First their free and easy only gives you 400 minutes for 40.00 a month and their other plans are just like everyone elses
Second, Their all "Digital" Coverage is not up to par with both Cingular and Verizon.
And their phones SUCK.

Well lets see...Cingular website said their 40.00 plan gives u 450 minutes...50 extra wow thats about 2 phone calls. Thats not even close to enough to make me excited. As for coverage..again it depends were you live. I live in washington state and cingular is garbage. Even tmobile has better service then cingular here. As for the phones..I find it laughable. You cant even compare the samsung megapixel phones and sanyo's awesome walkie talkie phones/camera/video against the crap motoroa/sony/nokia phones cingular carry. i would find it hard to find many others that think cingular phones even come close to sprint phones. Sprint comes out with almost all new stuff first..not sure whats crap about that. First to bring color phones out..first to ...

There is a big difference between CDMA roaming/analog..and GSM roaming. CDMA/Analog covers so much more area..so to me in the west..it would only make sense to pick the company that works more and that wouldnt be cingular.

Yes Sprint does have a larger no roaming area. thats definitely true, i was not trying to argue that point. Alot of that coverage is analog coverage. GSM does not have any analog to fall back on.On A CDMA network, towers are able to send a signal farther than a GSM tower, and that is due to the analog/digital nature of the CDMA system. CDMA is also a cheaper technology than GSM because is was an upgrade from the existing TDMA network and thus backward compatible. GSM towers cost anywhere from $500,000 to $1,000,000 per tower! But I can promise you your call quality when in a GSM covered area will be better than that of a CDMA network. GSM is also a world standard so you can use your phone in other countries. Also with GSM since it is strictl...

My post was directed toward (zinfyx939) more then yourself ehehe. Your point it well takin and i agree. Was just kinda getting at the point that when people talk about GSM roaming ..its not real roaming...U leave the GSM network..and you have nothing to fall back on.

i dont want to be the jerk, but your only half right in your argument, gsm is the cheaper system than cdma to maintain and to build, and no system cost 1,000,000 per tower. most dont even cost 500,000 per tower. with gsm you can put up 5 -10 foot repeater antennas and you cant with cdma. cdma was designed mostly for rural areas because of the further reaching range of the signal, where as cdma does not work as good in heavily populated areas as gsm. also gsm has much better phones for the most part in Europe because they have been using it for 15 years. cdma is a great network and verizon does have the most all digital coverage, but most of that doesnt have to do with the type of system they use it has to do with building towers and the fact...

HAHA why would anyone want a cdma phone/ well lets see..um more coverage and the phones are 10 times better. Not sure if you like lame sony and nokia phones but OK. My bad i thought that whole having megapixel /video/walkie talkie phones where cool...Never mind..I bow down to the SONY!!! only ranked by JD power as the WORST phone maker for US. Nokia was ranked 3 last and motorla was 5..YEA thats a sure fire winner. sure beat the sanyo's ect...SORRY

Nokia phones rock man, just because they're not folders like alot of Sanyos are etc, they're pretty nice, especially their higher end ones, IE: 6820, 6620, etc. Those phones kick most Sanyos, just everyone looks at flip phones and go 'ooooh it has moving parts' and buys because of that. Motorola products are good as well, though alot of my colligues will disagree *cough* big daddy *cough*. 🙄
Sprint has a much smaller network then Cingular, their no-roam plan uses alot of Verizons towers and such. Analog is a very rampant technology in the rural areas, however is very expensive to uphold, but better then nothing. Sprint/VZW plan on upgrading their analog networks to CDMA asap.
Sprint will never merge with Verizon, due to Sprint PCS be...

Did you want to expand on this duoply theory? How would they control the competition in the wireless industry? They would not want level competition I don't think, Cingular is bent on controling and being the master of the wireless industry, and while I think Verizon is the only one I would think that would stand a chance surviving in the industry, I don't think it's likely. More likely is there will be a big monopoly on the wireless industry maintained by Cingular and it is my belief that they will branch into Canada as well.

Yeah I agree about Cingular in washington oregon area. they don't have any towers up there, it's all t-mobile/att towers that cingular roams off of anyways. Hopefully the merger will improve coverage up in that area. As far as spring goes their california network sucks. It totally depend on where you live. Cingular's rate plans are better and GSM offer's more data servives that sprits CDMA network as of now, BUT sprint has some kick ass phones!
