This is certainly an exciting time for the wireless community. I'm just worried for me and my fellow AWS employees jobs. Let's hope they need us!

Well, I'm sure just as they have done for you Rob, they've been telling us that we'll be safe on the business side of AWS.

Well see come the first of the year. 🙄

they've been pretty clear that our jobs are safe for the foreseeable future, esp. in the call centers (which is where i am) 🙂

Im pretty sure they are same because they probably don't have the call centers to handle the call volume.

To save money on the merger, Cingular is going to lay off thousands of employees. I don't see why they would keep AWS employees. 😕

Nope. We're keeping the AWS reps, so they can take care of the previous AWS customers that are not migrating to Cingular plans.

Oh, ok. I don't think that this country needs more unemployed citizens. That's really the only thing that sucks in these merger situations.

First of all, we don't need to type in caps because this constitutes yelling. Let's learn to get some internet etiquette. Second, for now you have a job...who knows you may keep a job. But from what is all over the press, Cingular spent way TOO MUCH money to acquire ATT all in the name of being the largest. Cingular will have to forfeit a lot of licenses in a lot of markets because of this deal. If giving up a ton of rights is worth being the largest for about 18 months until Verizon Wireless surpasses them again, then more power to them. Oh, and most companies get rid of the little people first and place all the higher up people in other positions. Corporate America doesn't give a damn about the little people. I saw it right before ...

Oh, and since Cingular spent way too much for ATT, they will have to cut costs by eliminating jobs (thousands might I add). Thousands mean getting rid of all the little people to cut costs. It all makes sense, think about it 😉

If this is so, then God help them. Being the largest doesn't necessarily mean that they will be equipped to handle the incredible rush of customers either calling or coming to their stores. 😲

Well that's what online is for. I would rather pay online then go to the store and wait that long. That is why VZW give you the option to pay online, at the store, and even over the phone.

i understand and agree but...when you have a problem with your phone or some other issue to discuss, and you have to wait up to an hour, that is not good. i have seen so many people just give up and walk out you would not believe.
maybe they will get their act together and keep AWS people and stores open to handle the overload...

Oh yeah, you'll still be needed. Not everyone on AWS will migrate over the first day. You guys'll be taking the calls from the ones keeping the AWS plans for a long time.

ATT workers should have notihng to worry about. It's the Cingular workers that are going to take the hit in the merger. Seeing that we get paid a little bit more than ATT in some markets and we are unionized.

you sir are totally wrong. Cingular employees make LESS in most markets. The only ATTWS employees that make less are reps that work for Convergys.

i knew it was going to be quick, i told muchdrama that a month ago and he was saying may. i was saying by the end of the year. i dont think you have anything to worry about with your jobs. cingular is good about keeping people. i worked for bell south when they merged qand formed cingular and they kept everyone that i know of on a sales level. but this is very exciting someone to give that jerk company "screwizon" something theyve never had. a view from second place!!!!

2nd in customer base, 1st in customer satisfaction and coverage. Customer base will surpass Cingular at the rate that they are growing in about 18 mos. With a low churn rate and the ability to add about 1.7 million customers in less then a year, this competition between the 2 giants should be a good one. 😁
