Names Already Switched?

I'm sitting here at my desk at work and look down at my phone and it says "Cingular Wireless". So I figure something must have happened so I try to change back to AT&T and it still says Cingular. I was kind of surprised that the day the deal was finalized they already started switching the names on the towers and such.

A coworker and I both have AT&T Wireless (he uses a Nokia, and I use a Sony Ericsson).

His phone started displaying CINGULAR WIRELESS, while mine was still saying AT&T WIRELESS. The odd thing was that swapping the SIM cards didn't change the display- my card in his Nokia still displayed CINGULAR WIRELESS, while his SIM card on my Sony Ericsson was still displaying AT&T WIRELESS.

Couldn't figure out why.....

it wont be better. both services have dropped calls it makes customers cry. As mad as you might be with verizon's customer service, prices, whatever... u'll still be absolutely frustrated with the dropped calls. GSM network is horrible, don't listen to the AT&T "5-bars" commercials they have.. it's pretty laughable.

Thats why in those commercials there is always the disclaimer that all service providers must put.....THAT SERVICE IS NOT AVAILABLE IN ALL AREAS and also coverage does vary.

It says the same thing on VZW commercials as well. Once again, the only people that say thet have fewer dropped calls is VZW... they just cant get ANYONE ELSE to agree with them...

Id have to say your response is the only thing LAUGHABLE. You are 100% full of DUNG. You must be feeling the number 2 blues. The ONLY company in the WORLD that claims Verizon has "fewer dropped calls" is VERIZON. Not ONE independant source has EVER said that VZW has fewer dropped calls. Even your stupid VZW commercials have a DISCLOSURE at the bottom of the screen that says "results based on OWN testing" 🙄
Considering the fact that Cingular has the largest network EVER in the US, I'm sure you and your VZW buddies will be lying out of your teeth just to keep customers. Have a nice day.

Many cities in the US have voted VZW the #1 carrier in their respective markets. As for Disclosures, these are needed for all of the dumbasses that think their phone will work everywhere. Wireless has not reached that level yet, not Verizon, not Cingular. Verizon has been proven to have the fewest ratio of dropped calls based on areas that HAVE service. Name another company that spends $4 billion on their network per year. Name another company that makes over 300,000 test calls and drives over 100,000 miles simply to strive to improve network performance. Verizon Wireless is growing faster then companies like Microsoft and Sysco were when they were Verizon's size. At the rate that Verizon is growing, it will claim the #1 spot in custo...

so would it be safe to assume your at least a little biased towards screwizon? i worked for them for 2 years and i never heard of the fleet of cars. they do ( like all cell companys) have a network ops team that will go to troubled areas and test the service. but this is not unique to them as a company. i dont work for either verizon or cingular, however i have worked for both in the past. but like cain said verizon makes a lot of claims that noone else can prove.

There is a fleet of about 5 or 6 white 2003 Chevy Trailblazers that cruise the mountain region of the US. Why would I lie? Just because you are a bitter ex-employee doesn't mean a thing. I am here to chat, not company bash with childish remarks such as "screwizon." I mean, come on, can we have a realistic merger conversation and not make up our own names of the cell companies that we may like or dislike? 😕

im not saying you are lying im saing you are very uninformed, and im not a " bitter ex- employee" i actually left on very good terms, and was a sales manager in portland maine. just so you know.i just wanted to work for a carrier that i didnt feel was the big bad wolf. like att, verizon, cingular, sprint, and us cellular. which are all companys ive worked for in my 9 years in the industry. not including the company i manage for now. so if you could lay off the personal attacks against someone that knows more than you that would be great 😉

It ACTUALLY sounds like someone is up the A$$ of Verizon. Your USA today article was quoted as "MIGHT claim the number one spot". I believe the same article also said that Cingular would be more powerful than any wireless company within 2 years. So, we can see which side you are taking. As far as "spending money"... Cingular just spent 41 BILLION, pal. We now offer more Voice AND data than any company in the US...including VZW. Before that, we spent billions a year for network improvements ourselves. Cingular also has a FLEET of vehicles that test drive our networks nationwide. Just because we aren't dumb enough to come up with a cheesy "can you hear me now?" ad campaign, doesn't mean that VZW is the ONLY company who tests their networks. :r...

why the company bashing? even though I work for Verizon and am a little biased 😉 , this is great for the wireless industry. I say in a few years, there will be 4 cell companies left at the most...those will be Verizon, Cingular, Nextel and MAYBE T-mobile (if they don't get swapped up by Cingular).
...

Oct 27, 2004, 2:54 PM
i dont think you have to worry about t- mobile they are the fastest growing cell carrier in the country according to (usa today) and ( consumer reports). also i dont think you will ever see a time where there is only 4 carriers because of a few things mostly because of the fact that some companys like verizon and cingular dont want to spend the money it would cost to build in certain areas. which is how you get teh smaller carrier like the one i work for. and by smaller i mean we are ninth in the country. and these companys arent usually for sale because they are hitting a niche group that the others arent hitting. thats among other reasons.

we are rolling out a GSM in our northeast and west caost markets this year and our midwest and southern markets already use cdma. and to answer your other post. i dont have to work for every one of the carriers but when you have been in the industry as long as i have your bound to make a change or 5. i have never been one to stay in one place if i thought i wasnt doing what i wanted, although i know sales and managment is my niche up till i started working for this company i hadnt found one i could gell to and relate to well enough. although i will say i was at attws the longest. 3 years. and verizon the second longest 2 years.

sprint is just sleezy, and i worked for them when they first started the no credit check policy. this was like 5 years ago. and they would just give a phone to any 18 year old that was willing to sign a contract. then they wonder howcome their stock dropped 10 bucks and 7 eleven is worth more than them now. its because the people dont pay the bills and they have tons of money in collections, and lost subsidy's. which i have to tell you that almost every company with the exception of attws and cingular dont lose tjhat much money on subsidys any mroe as a whole.

Oct 27, 2004, 3:20 PM
Wow, so my assumptions were correct about the no credit check policy! I know some really ghetto people that have gone to Sprint because of that policy. I had a guy that tried to get service through verizon and he needed a deposit and he didn't understand. When he told me that he was with sprint for over 5 years, I figured that's why. And I was right! That is crazy.

Oct 27, 2004, 3:25 PM
not only is it crazy its ruined their company which WAS a pretty good one at one time. if they had built their network out and not done that other stuff they would have been verizon before verizon was verizon. because they had the cdma network first and every feature they have they had first, from camera phones to push to talk, to anything, but they were more worried about the fast dollar and they ended up bankrupting the company. even now the biggest deposit is 125.00

That's really too bad. You know, no one believes me when I say Sprint is broke. You think that Verizon will snag them up?

Oct 27, 2004, 3:34 PM
maybe but with all the invo deals sprint has inked latley they might just rent out their towers to other companys like attws, virgin, qwest and a few others. so i think the time for verizon to " snag" them has come and gone. besides that sprint customers dont want to be verizon customers. because sprint has better plans and phones, its their coverage that sucks ass most times, allthough they do have the new no roaming plan. i think sprint will caost along till they cant then drop, and be picked up for next to nothing. but that last parts just my opnion.

No hard feelings about our previous conversation, right? All in good fun my friend!
As for Qwest, from what I know they sold their customer base to Sprint.
I do know for sure that Verizon purchased the Qwest network.
Lots of fun things happening!

verizon purchased the qwest network because qwest is going to use sprints from now on they signed whats called an invo deal meaning that they will elase towers from psrint the same as the new attws and virgin do.

it means that you'll get a larger coverage area, with FEWER dropped calls. Not NO dropped calls, not even landlines can do that 100% of the time. After a little time and implementation your handset will also be programmed to be able to choose which network it uses based on which one is the strongest in your given area and treat that one like your home area. Bottom line: it's getting better and don't listen to anyone who says one tech is better than the other, it's a great time for both of them.

Most likely if you have the old blue ATTWS SIM your phone will still say "AT&T WIreless" but if you have the new white SIM then it will say "Cingular Wireless". Not the GAIT white SIM, but the new white GSM SIM. The difference is the color of the globe printed on the card.

To be honest just give it some time to download to your phone....its a special programming that was sent out that just takes a while to take full affect. The same thing happened when Roger's AT&T became Roger's Wireless.
