So they hope to accomplish what? Driving a historically significant fixture in American innovation further into the ground? They need to chill with the lawsuits...

No kidding. Getting tired of reading about new lawsuits from Apple almost every day. And of course, companies are firing of retaliatory lawsuits just to try to stay in the marketplace. Let's level the playing field. Even better, let's just schedule a battle royale and let these guys fight to the death. Quit wasting courtroom time and funding attorneys.

Kodak has already announced they are getting out of the digital camera business. Go find another hurting company to kick, Apple. A__holes! 👿

I always assumed that Apple's recent sue happy posture was a result of Steve Jobs' legendary jerkiness, and I was hoping that with Steve gone, Apple would start to behave more rationally....but apparently Steve managed to do a good job of convincing everyone else that going on a lawsuit jihad was a sound business strategy...

Given how well Apple is doing at the moment, this extreme defensiveness and aggression doesn't make any sense, what exactly are they so afraid of?

I don't think it's fear. From what I can tell, it's about dominance. They want to be in control. If they can't force submission in the marketplace, they'll beat down anyone they see as competition in the courts. Ultimately, it's a sad glance at the state of our society. Still rooting for an ultimate deathmatch.

I don't think it says anything about 'society', it says volumes about Apple's arrogance though.....

I agree. But frivolous lawsuits still have become a trademark of society at this point. If you're overweight, sue McDonalds, because it's not your fault. Spill your coffee, sue Starbucks because your hot drink is too hot. It's become altogether ridiculous that there is no personal accountability in the world anymore. Someone else always has to be responsible. The Apple situation is even worse since they basically open the door for potentially even more government intervention in our "open" marketplace. I'm interested in seeing how much Apple is spending on R&D versus what they are paying their lawyers.

Well for decades they put all their money in R&D, only to be beat to market my Microsoft. Even if they had 1st Mover's Advantage, Microsoft would get credit for the developments because of their larger market share, and Apple would look like the copy cats.

Apple as a company has been bullied so much in the past, that I just see this as them fighting back. Of course, it is not right. This is just a sign that they are as bad as Microsoft was back in the 90's, and that they will fall from grace soon enough.

Public opinion is turning against them, especially with those exploding factories in China. These days, people are not too forgiving of abusing business practices. Walmart and their abuse of pigs, Apple and the factories workers, etc....

One very important thing to remember is that so called 'millenials', i.e. those who grew up in the 2000's, have no memory of Microsoft as a 'bully', to them, Apple has always been 'king of the mountain', they have no memory of Apple as ever being an 'underdog'....

But there's nothing new about this, Apple has pretty always been a bully, it's just that before they never have a position to bully anyone except their own customers....

Very true, T Bone. I remember the days of Microsoft and the old Microsoft / Apple wars.

What irritates me is that so many Apple users seem congenitally incapable of admitting any fault or flaw in either the company or its products and feel the need to reflexively defend EVERYTHING

I mean, I generally like Microsoft products and use them all the time, but I'm also willing to call Microsoft out on its crap, when it does something clearly bad or wrong.....such as the X Box 360 'red ring of death' issue....not only is there is no excuse for that flaw even existing in the first place, but the company spent far too long denying the problem existed and refusing to help customers who experienced it....eventually, Microsoft did do the right thing, offering free replacements to anybody who had that problem...but it was poorly handled...

It's a cult like attitude, I've noticed. I currently work for Sprint, which might make me a target on here, but it is what it is, lol. I was in B2B sales pre iPhone and the number of people that would never even consider leaving the iPhone, no matter what the monthly savings would be or the fact that, based on customer satisfaction, we could provide a better rated phone than the iPhone. Personally, I don't care for the iPhone and am happy with my Android. I've seen the 4 & the 4s and am honestly not impressed. I do have a problem with the way Apple does business and will never understand the almost slavish loyalty and defensiveness of some Apple customers

"I currently work for Sprint, which might make me a target on here"

Most of the people here are current or former employees of a wireless carrier. I discovered this site when I was an at&t employee because it was recommended to me by fellow employees as a place where I could get wireless news before it's officially announced by at&t to employees...

The devotion that some people have to the iPhone is insane isn't it? On more than one occasion I wanted to scream at a customer 'for crying out loud, it's just a fricking phone!'

All this reminds me of the song 'Sue Ya' by Weird Al Yankovic. If you haven't heard it you should. It's the theme song for major companies these days. If anything you should look up the lyrics. Weird Al should rewrite the song to include Apple, Microsoft, Motorola, Google and Samsung. (And replace Verizon with AT&T in the song. Verizon doesn't have the problems AT&T does.)

I'll sue ya, if you look at me funny! haha 😛
