Pretty much every carrier charges an upgrade fee, someone said Verizon doesn't, but I bet they did at one time..or that they will soon if they didn't have one in the past I know sprint and T-Mobile both charge and upgrade fee, as do most of the smaller, local carriers.....if you don't want to pay an upgrade fee your options are:
1. Throw a temper tantrum during the upgrade in the hopes that they will waive it for you (works about 90% of the time)
2. Go prepaid
3. Buy all your phones at no contract price and never sign a contract
