..."Jumping ship" when the current contract is over, where I can go to another carrier (taking my number with me of course), get a NEW phone for a FAR better deal than with an upgrade, and depending on the carrier, a somewhat cheaper bill for the same services.....

Until that carrier does the same thing to you at which point you will "jump ship" , get a NEW phone for a FAR better deal than with an upgrade, and depending on the carrier, a somewhat cheaper bill for the same services.....

There will be someting that breaks the camel's back. It's how all big companies eventually get knocked down. Remember Bank of America's $5 debit card fee that never happened? That threat cost them 600,000 accounts according to their internal number crunchers. The truth is probably more.

I am convinced that BofA didn't really want a lot of the accounts anymore that it lost in the first place. The $5 fee was most likely going to be waived for it's customers that had a certain amount of money with them and not waived for those that kept a small balance. They weren't going to make any money off the little guy and they were better going elsewhere.
More of a philosophy of "hey, you want cheap go elsewhere" to me.

do you really think that people are going to be jumping ship because of an $18 increase that you see once every year to 2 years. The grass is not greener on the other side.

sometimes stupid is inexplainable

even without a termination fee, it is somewhat costly to switch carriers and they all know it

unless you are headed to prepaid, you will pay out the nose to create a new account...

you will be paying a pro-rated amount for the calling plan and features, along with the 'month in advance'..

you will undergo a credit check which will determine if you even qualify for service and if it is shaky at all, you will be asked for a deposit...

unless it's a coverage issue, I can't see changing carriers over small change
