Some truth to that, no fee if you get it via Costco, or if your company has an agreement with it to be waived if ordered through the Premier website.

Or if you throw a temper tantrum about the fee during the upgrade...

Yup....bottom line is it's not a huge source of revenue for the company and if you can keep a customer for 2 more years by waiving it, and often you can, it is simply good business to do so...

To be quite honest, I think this was a wrong move on their part, will I leave over it, even if I couldn't get it waived, no. My service is good, I get a decent corporate discount. If I didn't use them, I'd probably use T-Mobile, I just don't care for CDMA.

Is it that you need gsm for a particular reason (global service, company phone, etc...) or do you just not like having better reception everywhere?

I've been with at&t for years and I've never had a problem with reception anywhere I've gone....I've even been able to make and receive incoming calls while on an airplane at about 35,000 feet.....

If that is true congratulations on that but how does that mean your reception is better on the ground or anywhere else for that matter?

I don't follow your question....I've been with at&t for my wireless service for more than 15 years, I've been with them through at least 2 and maybe 3 name changes of the company...or maybe it was 4 name changes, I don't even remember at this point..they've changed their name a lot over the years....and in that time I've lived in 4 different states and traveled to nearly all 50 states with my at&t phone and have never had a serious problem with reception or dropped calls no matter where I go...

I worked for at&t for a while, but I was a customer before I was an employee (indeed I became an employee because I wanted the discount on the service I had already had for years at that point) but I quit in August 2010 because I just got to the po...

haha no wonder AT&T has such poor service, they are shooting service 6 miles into the air. 🙂

Also i hope you were not on a public flight within the US because thats a big no no according to the FCC.

"Also i hope you were not on a public flight within the US because thats a big no no according to the FCC."

Have you flown recently? You're only required to turn off mobile devices during take off and landing....the rest of the flight you can use them....and people do use them in the air all the time....don't you remember on 9-11 the people calling their loved ones right before they stormed the ****pit to take back the airplane? Don't you remember the words 'Let's Roll'? People make calls on planes all the time, and it's allowed so long as it's not during take off or landing.

http://www.fcc.gov/guides/wireless-devices-airplanes »

"Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules prohibit the use of cellular phones using the 800 MHz frequency and other wireless devices on airborne aircraft. This ban was put in place because of potential interference to wireless networks on the ground."

Maybe check your facts before telling someone they are wrong? im not saying its not possible, just that its not allowed by law.

Dude, I don't need to 'check my fact' I fly several times a year and everyone around me is on the phone during the majority of the flight....frankly I'm sick of listening to their conversations...

I've never liked the upgrade fee, I think it's a dumb and pointless fee which is charged for a bogus reason.....they really should just abolish it....
