Verizon doesn't have one...yet. I am sure the bean counters are working on gaining ALL this lost revenue their rivals are making.

USCC does not charge a upgrade fee either. I dont understand what cost they are talking about that would require an upgrade fee. It takes only a few seconds and a few clicks of the mouse to ad a phone to someones account. I wish I could get paid $18 to $30 to type in a number and collect a payment.

If thats all they're doing then thats poor service. On average I spend about an hour with a customer when they upgrade. Some new smartphone users i've had for upto 3 hours....

So, if I want to upgrade, but I don't want all of your help, can you waive it for me?

I appreciate the offer, but I'd rather you just click the button to put the phone on my account, and save me the 3 hours, thanks.

I don't really buy the idea that the fee is supposed to pay for all the stuff the agent does for you during the upgrade, because you're still charged for it when you do an upgrade online, and you have to do all that stuff for yourself....

Now if they waived the fee for online upgrades, I'd believe that rationalization....

That is my point exactly.
USCC used to charge an equipment change fee every time someone did an esn chage on their account. That was a $15 charge to select Add ESN activate and Deactivate ESN. USCC doesnot do that any more. They do charge an activation fee but not to put a new phone on your existing account.

The fee is not for the agent that is performing the upgrade, its for at&t themselves. If it were for the store, then it would be charged to you at the time of your upgrade.

It is charged during the upgrade, that is when the charge is made, it just doesn't show up on your account until the next bill...but the charge is made immediately....and it can be credited immediately as well....you just go to 'pending charges and credits' in Telegence and reverse it...

But, if people were responsible for paying it at the the time of the upgrade probably 90% of the customer complaints about it would disappear, the thing that people resent about it is the fact that it shows up seemingly out of nowhere a month later.,,,

T-Mobile charges the upgrade fee up front. The customer complaining is still there, though it's more along the lines of "why do I have to pay you extra to buy a phone and renew my contract?" instead of what I expect would be "Why did you put this charge on my bill?"

And that is the fault of a piss poor sales person who didn't want to infrom the customer about all the charges in fear of losing a commission.

No one is required to stay 3 hours its upto the customer. If they want in and out it will be done. I do think the reasons for the raise are wrong, my point is its not all that bad with their low price of phones.
