RIM can offer--

--entry-level and mid-range BlackBerries all they want. It's not the smartphones themselves that keep feature phone users from upgrading...it's the $30 data plan.

Maybe for some the data plan requirement is an obstacle, but that isn't preventing people from getting Android phones or iPhones.....

Possibly--I'm just noting that if there are feature phone users out there (like me), the $30 data plan could be considered too pricey. I'm certainly not paying that much more per month just to use Yahoo's Fantasy apps (the only reason a smartphone appeals to me).

Yahoo fantasy apps are the only reason a smartphone appeals to you? What about just overall mobility? Pretty much everything that can be done on a pc can be done on a smartphone, small, pocketable, goes anywhere with you.
